About the Role

The Principal DevOps Engineer is a key member of the platform team at Roche, responsible for defining the design principles and practices for implementing complex, enterprise-scale software systems. This role requires a deep understanding of modern SaaS architecture and experience across the full stack with a focus on creating tools, not band-aids.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design concept generation and participation in design reviews for components or features
  • Development and testing of the core software stack
  • Reliability testing and ensuring continuous delivery processes are aligned with operations
  • Leadership and mentorship to bring the product and team to the next level
  • Evangelism of healthy DevOps software development and operations practices within the Roche Engineering Community

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in the software industry
  • 3+ years of experience in contemporary platforms extended from cloud (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm charts, Kustomize)
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with AWS
  • Experience automating using infrastructure as code (preferably Terraform)
  • Hands-on automation operations using configuration management tools
  • Hands-on System Administration experience with Unix-based systems including system configuration and networking
  • Experience in overall areas in DevOps including CI/CD, Internal tooling, and production operations

Preferred Skills

  • Experience deploying or managing large scale distributed environments in Edge environments
  • Experience in Production Continuous Monitoring environments covering all modules of the platform and infrastructure
  • Previous SRE experience
  • Hands-on experience in other cloud providers (Azure, GCP, AliCloud)
  • Scripting experience using shell, Python, Ruby, or similar languages
