Senior Casualty Underwriter

Casualty Senior Underwriter, reporting to a senior manager and working in close cooperation with the underwriting team in our Madrid office.
About the Department & Team:- Underwriting Casualty business.
- Commercial activity, dealing with brokers and clients effectively.
- Dealing with both new business and renewal submissions, requiring the appropriate underwriting authority.
- Checking documents: submissions, underlying policies, slips, and loss records.
- Utilizing the rating tool and supporting systems (e.g., Rulebook, DOT, PowerBI, RFID, Peer Reviews, and Underwriting Authority Governance).
- Supporting the growth of the Casualty business in our Madrid office, following the departure of a previous team member.
- Developing relationships with LSM market brokers and clients, requiring commercial skills and a previous broking network in the Spanish market.
- Dealing with complex renewals, negotiating renewal terms and conditions with brokers, assessing exposure development, loss experience, and issuing referrals.
- Familiarizing oneself with in-house tools (e.g., Rulebook, DOT, PowerBI, RFID, Peer Reviews, and Underwriting Authority Governance).
- Handling underwriting-related tasks, such as file completion, peer reviews, and participating in the IPR as appropriate.
- Adhering to relevant regulatory requirements and demonstrating behaviors as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, aligning with LSM's Liberty Values.
- Appropriate university degree or higher education qualification (Law Degree preferred) or equivalent.
- Extensive Casualty underwriting experience.
- Understanding of insurance contracts and experience in Casualty underwriting, including large and complex risks, with a generic understanding of other liability lines (e.g., EIL).
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to assume responsibility, work against measurable performance targets, and maintain a professional and confident approach with brokers and clients.
- Showing initiative, autonomy, and proactiveness is key for this role as a Senior Underwriter.
- Organized and service-oriented.
- Commitment to developing a professional career.
- Fluent in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in a professional manner.
