Internal Communication Lead

The Kinross Africa Regional Office is located in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, and is responsible for providing senior leadership and back office support to the gold mine sites located in Ghana and Mauritania. Purpose of the role
Reporting directly to the Regional HR Director and working closely with the HRBP Manager and the Regional External Relations Lead the purpose of this role is to be responsible for the internal communication in the Las Palmas office and in TMLSA, assuming a functional leadership role with the Internal Communications Officer of Tasiast. To implement the communication strategy and delivering best practices and expertise to enhance the company´s relations with its employees and stakeholders. To work with the corporate and regional teams in the implementation and communication of the company strategy and initiatives including Inclusion and Diversity strategy and the Safety Excellence Program.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties
- Responsible for the development of the internal communication strategy
- Ensure compliance with corporate procedures, project leadership, consistency in communications contents and supports, and by actively supporting them in the management of tools and procedures
- Create and execute strategic and tactical communication plans for the Las Palmas office and the Tasiast site/Nouakchott office to support and advance regional business objectives, in line with overall corporate communication and HR objectives and guidelines;
- In partnership with the General Managers and Heads of Departments, create and execute strategies and tactics aligned with the regional objectives to better engage its employees in achieving improvements in individual and collective performance
- Manage the content on the Africa Region intranets, including associated documents
- Lead the development of internal communications strategies and action plan to assure regional employee alignment with corporate values and regional business strategy
- Advise and support members of the Regional and local HR team in their communication needs
- Support the Regional Leadership team to ensure that sites and regional offices are informed with the latest corporate disclosures (quarterly news releases and specific new releases in relation with the Region)
- Ensure company’s initiatives and projects are successfully and effectively communicated to employees and stakeholders
- Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the Africa region
- Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect organizational perception and reputation
- Manage the internal communication on events/incidents in the Africa Region (key messages, internal reporting, holding statement if needed).
- Develop communication to inform and educate employees on matters relevant to the Company
- Produce communications supports: internal announcements, PowerPoint presentations, etc., and the publication of the Tasiast newsletter
- Support corporate communication actions (promotion of corporate values / corporate announcements / Kinross World Online / LOVA / WIM / I&D initiatives/ Safety Excellence Program/ Learning & Development)
- Build a database of communication content on the Africa Region (general information / pictures / videos / PowerPoint presentation) in coordination with relevant departments
- Support office and site visits
- Foster employee engagement via effective communication of initiatives, benefits, events, values, announcements, etc.
- Revise global announcements for the Region
- Work together with the local, regional and corporate team members responsible for I&D in the implementation of the I&D strategy from a communication point of view
- Participate in and implementation global and corporate Inclusion and Diversity initiatives in the region
- Attend global and regional I&D diversity related webinars, meetings and calls
- Design and implement communication of the I&D initiatives aligned with the global strategy and local necessities and conditions of the offices and site
- Responsible to cover the communication needs related to the Safety Excellence Program Education
- Relevant university degree. Master’s degree preferred
- Related additional certifications are an asset Skills Required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to synthesise complex information quickly
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with dispersed and multicultural teams
- Proven ability to create and implement effective and realistic communication plans for multiple audiences, including employee communication
- Possess a sense of urgency and be self-motivated
- Attention to detail and good analytical skills
- Computer literate to a high intermediate level, PowerPoint savvy
