We are looking for an experienced climate change professional to join our European Energy Business Unit carbon management team. The preferred location for this role is Madrid, but other locations in Spain will be considered. Our carbon management team works primarily with energy and utilities sector clients, supporting their journey in the energy transition and in achieving their climate change net zero objectives. In addition, our team works collaboratively with colleagues within Mott Macdonald's climate change practice community, supporting clients globally across other sectors and geographies.
Role responsibilities:
- Perform lead advisor role within projects that involve whole life carbon assessments (carbon footprint) and carbon management implementation in infrastructure projects
- Provide strategic advice to clients to align their policies, plans and business processes to achieve their climate change objectives and net zero ambitions
- Assess the performance of projects against national and international standards as well as industry best practice to inform development of project design in terms of climate change mitigation
- Assess performance of projects against climate change mitigation requirements from national and international standards as part of environment and social due diligence (ESDD), climate change risk assessments (CCRA) and environmental impact assessments (EIA)
- Support other projects related to climate change and the energy transition, such as technology or industry innovation projects, public sector's strategies or plans
- Support business development related activities, identifying opportunities/prospects to allow us to position the team to produce winning proposals, including growing our client base in mainland Europe
- Prepare proposals and bid submissions
- Contribute to management, mentoring and recruitment of junior staff.
Essential
- Degree or post-graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline
- Experience in leading the delivery of corporate, product, or infrastructure carbon footprints and greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory projects.
- Experience in leading the delivery of carbon management projects across a range of project types, demonstrate successful delivery against scope, quality, and budget.
- Knowledge of legislation and policy influencing carbon and climate change, knowledge of key methodologies and standards associated with carbon accounting and carbon management, such as ISO14064, PAS2060, PAS2080, SBTis and Net Zero Standard.
- Knowledge of efforts (initiatives/project/commitments) in the industry to reduce the carbon impact of energy, transportation, construction, and the built environment (and ideally participation in such endeavours)
- Excellent communication skills, including report writing and client presentations, in English and Spanish
- Excellent numerical analytical skills, including the use of Excel and other tools
- Experience in client engagement and delivering an appropriate message to the intended audience.
Desirable
- Energy sector experience. Experience in renewable energy, low carbon, and carbon removal technologies
- Experience in environmental impact assessment and environmental due diligence work
- Knowledge of low-carbon materials/processes/innovations in construction and the built environment
- Knowledge of physical climate change risks, adaptation and resilience strategies, and experience in climate change risk assessments (EPIV, TCFD)
- Knowledge of the circular economy and experience of implementing resource efficiency and circular economy strategies
- Knowledge of carbon offsets and carbon markets
- Knowledge of financial aspects of carbon management
- Capacity for flexible delivery - ability to think strategically “big picture” as well as deliver shorter term detail #LI-MM2
- Membership of a relevant professional institution, preferably at a chartered or equivalent level
- Experience in managing and recruiting junior staff.
