Role Overview The English Language Learning (ELL) division of Pearson is looking for a talented and motivated professional to join our growing organization as a Team Lead - Software Engineer. In this exciting role, you will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and coaching your team members. You will also be responsible for analysis, design, implementation, and automated testing as a key member of a high-performing team. You will understand the needs of our users and collaborate with our product teams to innovate and ideate. You will be essential in ensuring the team's success, working closely as a mentor, reviewing their work, and supporting them across diverse areas, including assessment delivery, scoring technology, infrastructure, identity management, and e-commerce. The Team This position is on a team that develops and maintains client and candidate-facing web, desktop, and mobile assessment delivery and automated scoring solutions that serve a global user base. We deliver and score millions of language assessments annually across various industries. The Team Lead - Software Engineer will: Mentor and train team members with a continuous improvement mindset. Implement observability into applications, actively monitoring and resolving issues promptly. Own the performance and career management of the team. Ensure on-time and high-quality delivery of project/product commitments. Work in an agile engineering team writing maintainable and scalable code. Analyze, design, develop, and test software components and applications. Implement designs following Pearson coding standards and industry best practices. Create testable code and implement automated tests as part of new product development. Collaborate with stakeholders to design, develop, test, and launch impactful software. Define designs, turn them into high-quality code, and deliver on schedule. Clarify technical requirements, assess development estimates, and apply a broad range of design approaches. Review code of other team members and provide constructive direction. Monitor performance indicators and make continuous improvements. Drive continuous improvement of software quality, customer experience, and maintainability. Collaborate actively with others within and outside of the team. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent technology discipline. Minimum of 6 years of experience in Software Engineering with at least 2 years of experience in leading engineering teams. Experience in developing complex software systems delivered to customers. Extensive software development experience in an Agile environment. Proven track record in customer-facing Web Application design/development. High-quality standards in unit testing, code reviews, and test automation. Experience using AWS technologies at scale in a production environment. Experience with Non-functional requirements such as Responsive Web Design, Accessibility, Security, Performance, and Scalability. Knowledge of application servers, SOA, automation tools, and build tools. Experience with HTTP/2, PWA, Serverless, Microservices, CI/CD, and cross-platform development. Strong communication skills with users, technical teams, and management. Strong business and technical vision.
