The Chief Accountant will be responsible for the efficient running of the Accounting and Finance Department, in line with Hyatt International's Corporate Strategies and brand standards. The Chief Accountant is responsible for supervising and overseeing accounts payable, receivable, ledger, credit and all related areas.
Main DutiesOperational
- Ensure each section of the Accounting and Finance Department is managed efficiently, maximizing technology utilization.
- Review all Purchase Orders to ensure correct charts of account codes are used.
- Maintain and program Master Keys for the hotel, ensuring good working interfaces.
- Review reports compiled by Cost Auditor and liaise with Materials Manager to ensure proper procedures and control of inventories.
- Safeguard all contracts, leases, insurance policies, and legal and financial documents.
- Review and approve daily IJ (income Journal).
- Review all spot checks such as cash counts conducted by income auditors.
- Review and approve General Cashiers Report, ensuring all receipts are intact and remitted to the bank promptly.
- Review weekly payment proposal and check manual international payments.
- Check and approve all Petty Cash claims/reimbursements.
- Approve travel agent commissions via Onyx.
- Approve all IOUs and liaise with General Cashier to ensure they are cleared on time.
- E nsure AP ledger is clear.
- Ensure all Foreign remittance for supply of goods or otherwise is done on time.
- Review AR is clear.
- Participate in monthly credit meetings.
- Approve all rebates, write-offs, and transfers.
- Review daily In-house Guest Credit and deposit ledgers.
- Prepare month-end all Journal Vouchers.
- Review all Balance Sheet accounts, ensuring schedules are prepared on time and accurately.
- Participate in reviewing financial results after closing.
- Assist Director of Finance in monthly financial reporting and analysis.
- Assist Director of Finance in compiling budgets and forecasts and assist Department Heads by providing historical data or support details.
- Assist with preparation of special statistical reports required by local management or Area Office.
- Handle all problems of the accounting office except those referred to Director of Finance.
- Support hotel's focus on service excellence by training and assisting other departments.
- Ensure Finance personnel provide professional, courteous, and caring service to employees and visitors.
- Handle guest and internal customer complaints and inquiries in a courteous and efficient manner, following through to resolve problems satisfactorily.
- Maintain positive guest and colleague interactions with good working relationships.
- Maximize employee productivity through multi-skilling, multi-tasking, and flexible scheduling to meet financial goals and guest expectations.
- Ensure new technology and equipment are embraced, improving productivity while taking work out of the system.
- Assist in recruitment and selection of all Finance employees, ensuring adherence to hotel guidelines and competency-based approach.
- Oversee punctuality and appearance of all Finance employees, ensuring they wear correct uniform and maintain high standard of personal appearance and hygiene.
- Maximize effectiveness of Section Heads by developing their skills and abilities through training, coaching, and/or mentoring.
- Plan and implement effective training programs for employees in coordination with Training Manager and Departmental Trainers.
- Support reinforcement of Hyatt's Values.
- Ensure all employees have complete understanding of and adhere to employee rules and regulations.
- Ensure employees follow hotel, company, and local rules, policies, and regulations relating to fire and hazard safety, and security.
- Knowledgeable in statutory legislation in taxes, Forex, employee, and industrial relations.
- Maintain high standards of personal presentation and grooming.
- Attend all training and meetings as required.
- Perform any other reasonable duties and responsibilities assigned.
- University degree or diploma in Finance, Commerce, or Hospitality/Tourism management preferred.
- Minimum 2 years work experience as Chief Accountant or Senior Accountant in larger operation.
- Good problem-solving, administrative, and interpersonal skills are a must.
- Fluent English and Spanish written and verbal.
