NoOffer Description We are seeking to recruit a research assistant for the development of the project BILingualism In Age-*Related Disorders: from cognition to neural networks (BILiARD) of the research group NeuroADaS Lab of the Health Sciences Department of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.The aim of the project is to employ a multidimensional approach that reaches several levels of explanation on the protective effects of bilingualism. This includes cognitive variables and neurobiological data, such as the analysis of neuroimaging and biomarkers of diseases associated with aging. Specifically, from a comprehensive perspective, we aim to analyze a unique dataset obtained from a substantial sample of 2,700 individuals aged 45-75 years from the ALPHA and ALPHA+ studies with adults. This general objective will be analyzed in the following specific aspects:Examine the influence of bilingualism on memory and executive control, recognized as the two main cognitive domains linked to bilingual advantage in aging and neurodegenerative diseases.Investigate the brain bases of the effects of bilingualism, both structural and metabolic.Explore the cognitive and neural connections of bilingualism in relation to risk of conversion to dementia, particularly in people carrying the APOE-4 gene.Analyze longitudinal changes in cognitive and brain reserve related to bilingualism by comparing data from baseline and follow-up visits conducted every three years.This project involves three institutions: the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), the BarcelonaBeta Research Center (BBRC) and the Hospital de la Santa Cruz y Santo Pablo. The research team has specialized expertise in the investigation of bilingualism in neurodegenerative diseases, the application of data science to neuroimaging, and the study of cognition and neuroimaging in preclinical Alzheimer's disease.Responsibilities:Data analysis with advanced research techniques.Management of a database.Reporting of results.Manage the collaboration between the researchers of the entities involved.The successful candidate will be awarded a temporary full-time contract of one year, starting on December 16, 2024.
