The Nanoionics and Fuel Cells Group is seeking a motivated and hands-on Research Engineer to support the development of next-generation Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell (SOEC) technologies for hydrogen and e-fuel production . The position is part of the COMECOCO2 project and focuses on advancing innovative SOEC and co-electrolysis (CoSOEC) systems capable of efficiently converting renewable electricity, water and carbon dioxide into hydrogen and sustainable synthetic fuels. The successful candidate will contribute to the fabrication, assembly and testing of advanced electrochemical stacks and their associated balance-of-plant components. Particular emphasis will be placed on the development of novel stack architectures, including technologies enabled by advanced ceramic manufacturing routes such as additive manufacturing and other scalable fabrication techniques. The work will involve the processing and characterization of ceramic materials and electrochemical components, stack integration, development of experimental testing platforms, and operation of SOEC/CoSOEC systems under realistic conditions. The candidate will play a key role in supporting research activities aimed at improving efficiency, durability and scalability of high-temperature electrolysis technologies for future power-to-X applications. This position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of sustainable energy conversion technologies within a dynamic and internationally recognized research team with extensive expertise in solid-state electrochemical devices, hydrogen technologies and advanced ceramic manufacturing. We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented and solution-driven researcher or engineer who enjoys experimental work and is motivated to contribute to the development of disruptive technologies for sustainable fuel production.

We offer
a Research Engineer position within the framework of the COMECOCO2 project, with an initial duration of 12 months . The selected candidate will join a dynamic research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and opportunities to contribute to the development of advanced technologies for hydrogen and sustainable e-fuel production. Research Field Chemistry Education Level Bachelor Degree or equivalent Research Field Engineering Education Level Bachelor Degree or equivalent Degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Chemistry, Physics, Nanoscience, Energy Engineering or related disciplines. Minimum two years of experience in laboratory work related to energy materials, electrochemical devices or advanced materials processing. Familiarity with fuel cells, electrolyzers or related electrochemical energy conversion technologies, preferably solid oxide systems. Experience in materials science for energy applications. Experience in advanced ceramic manufacturing techniques, including additive manufacturing, thin-film deposition or related processing methods. Skills in stack assembly, system integration, prototyping and experimental setup development. Experience with CAD design and engineering software. Basic skills in data analysis and scientific programming. Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary research teams. Knowledge of Spanish and/or Catalan will be positively considered. Commitment to laboratory safety and good scientific practices.
