TSIRC currenlty has vacancies for (4) Sustainability Compliance Officer/Environmental Health Worker
About the role:
- Establish and implement waste management compliance and sustainability compliance and awareness
- Monitor, identify and provide the appropriate response to waste management and sustainability issues within the community.
- Monitor, identify and provide the appropriate response to environmental health issues within the community.
- Provide awareness and education of waste management and sustainability matters with the community and visitors.
- Develop a cooperative working relationship with TSIRC staff.
- Be responsible for, and provide service to, the public on environmental health and animal management matters within community.
- Operate in conjunction with the Manager Environment and Health, Senior Environment and Health Worker, Waste and Biosecurity Engagement Coordinator, Waste and Sustainability Engineer within the capacity of compliance and liaise with other stakeholders including community residents, Government Agencies, nongovernment agencies, Environmental Health Workers, Engineering Officers
- TSIRC and TSRA Rangers.
What will you be doing?
_Waste Management Compliance:

- Undertake routine inspections, investigations, surveys, enquiries and other assigned tasks relative to waste management under the Local Laws and Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011(Qld)
- Assess compliance performance and review waste management practices. Where

- Provide assistance with the preparation of timely and appropriate reports on activities with
- Encourage community participation in addressing and promoting environmental health.

- Deliver, or participate in, the development of education and awareness programs that relate
- Promote reduce, reuse and recycling across cluster group.
_ Biosecurity:
_
- Understand the biosecurity requirements for the movement of materials and waste.
- Educate contractors, staff, community within cluster group.
Who are we looking for?
- Intermediate computer knowledge and skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of languages specific to the Torres Strait including: Meriam Mer, Kala Lagaw Ya, and Creole would be highly desirable.
- Experience in collection, interpreting and reporting of data and translating research and evaluation to inform evidencebased community sustainability.
- Experience in providing support and education and training in a crosscultural setting to individuals and groups.
- Knowledge of environmental issues relevant Torres Strait Island people living in remote communities and an understanding of effective strategies to influence the wider environment and making it sustainable for future generations.
- Interpersonal and consultation skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, partner organisations and key stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a geographically isolated environment requiring a high level of independence and autonomy in work practice.
- Current Queensland Driver's Licence is highly regarded.
