About the unit
The
Business Development and Innovation Area at Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is responsible for managing and enhancing the value of innovative projects that are generated at IDIBELL, to promote the establishment of translational research-industry collaborations and to provide new opportunities and resources for the conduction of research within the institution.
The Business Development and Innovation Area of IDIBELL is the leader of
XarSMART, an R+D+I network to promote the valorization and transfer to the market of research results.
XarSMART is focused on precision medicine, medical devices and data sciences and provides support to research groups across the Catalonian territory.
The main activities of XarSMART will be to evaluate and valorise the innovation projects of the research groups, to identify competitive grant for research projects and consortiums, to promote the collaboration with the industry or to disseminate the activities of XarSMART, among others.
The
Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is a research center in biomedicine promoted by the Bellvitge University Hospital and the Viladecans Hospital, both from the Catalan Health Institute, the Catalan Institute of Oncology, University of Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat city council.
In 2017, the Center for Regenerative Medicine of Barcelona (CMR[B]), now part of IDIBELL, launched the Program for Advancing the Clinical Translation of Regenerative Medicine of Catalonia (P-CMR[C]) together with IDIBELL.
About the role
- Participate in the process of evaluating innovative projects at scientific, technical and market perspective.
- Knowing the activity of research groups of XarSMART to identify innovative projects.
- Evaluate and stablish technology transfer channels.
- Prepare roadmaps, advise and support innovation projects to increase their market value.
- Drafting of commercial arguments of the projects.
- Develop business cases for projects.
- Support to XarSMART members to draft and negotiate collaborative agreements.
- Draft competitive calls to present innovation projects.
- Regular contact and support to principal investigators and their teams.
- Attending innovation congresses and participating in the technology transfer strategy.
- Promotion of XarSMART innovation portfolio. Networking with companies and trading partners.
- Identification and presentation of the innovation portfolio to venture capital funds.
Job requirements
Professional experience
- Previous experience in similar roles, particularly in innovation management from Technology Transfer Offices
- Working knowledge of intellectual property management, grants writing and submission, scientific and market evaluation of scientific projects, valorization of projects
- Experience in venture capital funds
- University degree in Life Sciences
- Official Master degree in Life Sciences
- Project Management
- Good command of Microsoft Office
- Customer and results orientation
- Proactivity, initiative, relational skills
- Good communication abilities, both written and verbal
- Good command of the English, Spanish and Catalan languages

- Previous experience in healthcare research
- Previous experience in business development for Life Science projects
