What We Are Looking for: - ISGlobal is seeking a national consultor from Morocco who is interested in taking over and managing activities of the project Transforming data collection and surveillance around vaccination (including COVID-19) and key diseases in migrants in the MENA Region.
- The overall project goal is to develop, evaluate and implement the Migrant health Country profile toll in the MENA Region (MHCPt)
Project description: - Health surveillance with reliable disaggregated data on migrants is crucial for policy planners to improve health outcomes among the 46 million migrants residing in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region.
- The objective of this project is to develop, evaluate and implement the Migrant Health Country Profile tool (MHCPt) in specific sites in the MENA region (Morocco, Tunisia, Sudan). The MHCPt is an innovative digital tool that will facilitate the monitoring of key migrant health indicators in order to assess health needs and supply gaps, improve health outcomes and ensure their inclusion, including in the immediate response to immunisation by example. The MHCPt will enable countries to strengthen data collection, facilitate crosscountry comparisons and ultimately transform service delivery and policy making on migration and health.
- One of the main objectives of our research consortium the MENA Migrant Health Working Group is to build research capacity in the MENA region by training and mentoring early and midcareer PhD students to carry out the proposed research, and to establish a research network with strong links to leading academic institutions in the MENA region and Europe. We are going to build an International PhD programme with the University of Barcelona.
- This project is led by the Barcelona Institute of Global Health in collaboration with the Université Mohammed VI des Sciences de la Santé de Casablanca, Office Nationale de la Santé et la Population, Tunisia, University of Sousse in Tunisia, Blue Nile Institute for Communicable Diseases Sudan, Gezira University of Sudan, Sant George's University of London, International Organization for Migration and the Ecole Nationale de Santé Publique in Rabat
Description of the MHCP-t:
- MHCPt integrates sources of information from routine health data, and other sources (e.g. humanitarian actors, civil society groups) on health aspects of migrant populations, including refugees, asylum seekers, migrant workers, internally displaced populations, and irregular migrants, among others. The MHCPt operates through a systematic online survey incorporating data sources in areas of critical importance to migrant health: tuberculosis, HIV, viral hepatitis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases, vaccinepreventable diseases (including a special focus on COVID19), noncommunicable diseases, mental health and maternal health.
- The MHCPt facilitates data collection around three key areas:
- 1.
disease surveillance systems, national public health registers, research projects, demographic and health surveys, health insurance data sets.- 2.
Policies and legal frameworks related to migrant health and commitments in regional and global governance frameworks related to migrant health.- 3.
Data on coverage and access to health services, including data on the inclusion of migrants in health and immunization systems, and the range of health services and initiatives that specifically target migrants, including COVID-1- The MHCP-t operates through an iterative and systematic multi-stakeholder data collection process that will be coordinated by a National Migrant Health Secretariat.
The heterogeneous nature of migrant health data has shown that there is no single focal point at the national level capable of dealing with all modules of the MHCP-t.
It is therefore essential to invest in an intersectoral coordination mechanism at the national level to disseminate the survey tool.
