Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in Wildfire Dynamics

Role Description We are looking for excellent mid-career scientists to conduct high-impact research in Barcelona within the Beatriu de Pinós Scholarship Program ( We are welcoming applications to lead and contribute to research projects focusing on the study of wildfire behavior in one of the following topics: Characterization of wildfire dynamics in laboratory and field environments, including the development of novel remote sensing technologies. Analysis of wildfire dynamics at the landscape and global scales leveraging state-of-the-art spaceborne earth observation platforms. Development of physics-based and hybrid data-physics wildfire modeling frameworks. The proposed research includes designing and conducting experiments, analyzing physical processes involved in wildfire dynamics, compiling and interpreting research data, and collaborating on the development of innovative methodologies. The researcher will also contribute to academic activities, such as publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals, international travel to workshops and conferences, and mentoring students/early-career researchers. Grant duration: 3 years Gross annual salary: 37,392 € Qualifications PhD in a relevant field such as Physics, Engineering, or Environmental Science is required, completed between 01/01/2028 and 31/12/2023. At least 2 years of postdoctoral research experience outside Spain. Solid background in physics, with the ability to apply theoretical concepts to practical problems. Solid background in computational modeling, especially in computational fluid dynamics, combustion, and heat transfer. Proficiency in data analysis, including statistical techniques and computational tools relevant to research. Experience in remote sensing. Teaching experience and the ability to mentor and guide students and junior researchers effectively. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for publishing and presenting research findings. Experience in wildfire-related research is highly desirable.
