Head of Data ScienceLocation: Barcelona (Hybrid)OverviewA global, complex organisation operating at a significant scale is seeking a Head of Data Science to lead and grow its data science capability during a period of rapid expansion.This role owns the quality, direction, and impact of all data science output across the organisation. You will lead senior data science leaders, partner closely with executive stakeholders, and ensure advanced AI solutions are delivered responsibly, transparently, and at scale.The position reports into the executive AI leadership team and plays a critical role in shaping how data science drives operational, commercial, and strategic decision-making across multiple domains.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn and define the data science vision, standards, and strategy across the organisationAct as the senior authority on the quality, robustness, and business relevance of all data science workLead, mentor, and scale a multi-layered data science organisation (Heads / Leads / Principals)Oversee the design, deployment, and scaling of AI solutions into production environmentsPartner with senior business stakeholders to translate complex challenges into data-driven solutionsClearly justify and communicate model choice, deployment strategies, and trade-offs to non-technical audiencesEnsure strong governance, ethical AI practices, and regulatory compliance across all initiativesStay at the forefront of advances in AI, integrating new methods where they deliver genuine business valueOperate in a highly stakeholder-facing role , with frequent travel to align teams and leadership across locationsRequired Experience & Background10+ years' experience in Data Science / AI , with 3+ years in senior leadership rolesProven experience leading large data science organisations (20+ data scientists)Track record of delivering high-impact AI solutions at scale within complex environmentsStrong background across multiple areas of AI (e.g. ML, optimisation, simulation, deep learning, generative AI)Experience operating across multiple concurrent projects and domainsExceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to senior, non-technical stakeholdersDemonstrated experience working in cross-functional, matrixed organisationsDesirablePhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related fieldExperience in regulated, operationally complex, or safety-critical environmentsStrong consultancy-style background with executive-level stakeholder engagementWhy This RoleLead a rapidly scaling data science function during a major growth phaseHigh visibility and influence at the executive levelOpportunity to shape AI strategy across a large, international organisationWork with advanced, real-world AI problems with tangible impact
