Staff Apache Impala Engineer at BairesDev

We are seeking a Staff Apache Impala Engineer with deep expertise in SQL query engines, columnar storage optimization, and distributed query processing for analytical workloads. The technology stack includes popular open source query engines - Apache Hive, Impala, Trino, and table formats like Apache Iceberg. Thus, there is ample scope for collaboration and contribution to open source. The ideal candidate will lead the design and optimization of high-performance analytical systems, drive architectural decisions, and mentor engineering teams while delivering cutting-edge solutions for complex data processing challenges.

What You'll Do:

  • Contribute actively to Apache Impala and related open source projects as a core contributor.

  • Design and optimize SQL query engines for high-performance analytical workloads.

  • Architect columnar storage solutions to maximize query performance and data efficiency.

  • Lead distributed query processing systems optimization for large-scale datasets.

  • Drive performance tuning initiatives for complex analytical operations.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams on technical solutions and system integration.

What we are looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience in software development.

  • Strong expertise in columnar storage formats and optimization techniques.

  • Deep understanding of distributed systems and query processing.

  • Proficiency in systems programming languages (C++, Java, or similar).

  • Proven experience in performance tuning of large-scale data systems.

  • Core contributions to Apache open source projects (Impala, Spark, Hive, or similar).

  • Advanced level of English.
