We are looking for a
Medium Voltage Dry-Type Transformer Design Engineer
who wants to go beyond standard calculations: lead challenging designs, push simulations to their limits, and see their solutions manufactured and operating in real, international projects.
This role has a direct impact on the reliability and performance of our power electronics solutions across critical sectors such as renewables and industry.
About the role
- Key position in the design and optimization of medium voltage dry-type transformers for demanding power applications.
- End-to-end involvement across the full product lifecycle: concept, simulation, industrialization, testing, and factory support.
- Work in a multidisciplinary, international environment, collaborating closely with power electronics, mechanical, quality, and operations teams.
Key challenges
- Design the magnetic, electrical, and thermal circuits of medium voltage dry-type transformers, including ventilation and thermal management systems.
- Size transformers to meet insulation requirements, thermal class, lifetime, and BIL levels, for both MV and LV windings.
- Define and analyze type and routine tests (partial discharge, impulse/BIL, etc.), ensuring IEEE / IEC compliance.
- Use advanced design and simulation tools (FEMM, thermal studies, short-circuit and seismic analysis) to validate and optimize designs.
- Work closely with manufacturing to transfer designs into production, defining processes and acceptance criteria.
- Apply SFRA (Sweep Frequency Response Analysis) to understand failure modes and improve design reliability and diagnostics.
What we're looking for
- Degree in Electrical, Industrial, Telecommunications Engineering or Physics (or equivalent).
- Experience in medium voltage dry-type transformer design or power magnetic components.
- Strong knowledge of standards and regulations:
- IEEE C , IEEE C , UL1562, UL1446, IEC 60076
- (nice to have: IEC 62109, IEC 62477 for inverters).
- Familiarity with dry-type transformer manufacturing processes and material selection (magnetic core, LV/MV conductors, insulation systems).
- Experience with SFRA testing and mechanical failure mode analysis is a plus.
