Job Description:

Why This Role Matters

You will lead the definition and execution of the data strategy for Global Development, ensuring internal and external data assets are standardized, interoperable, and ready to power analytics, AI/ML, and regulatory activities.

This role connects strategy with operational delivery, ensuring high-value data from protocol design through trial disclosure is reusable across multiple programs and therapeutic areas.

Working cross-functionally across R&D, you'll embed FAIR data principles, semantic consistency, and governance best practices — integrating diverse data sources into an enterprise data ecosystem aligned with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Strategy & Roadmap

  • Shape and deliver the Global Development data strategy aligned with enterprise R&D priorities.
  • Partner with Global Functions DSDH and clinical teams, to identify data needs and opportunities. Collaborate and optimize in partnership with stakeholders outside R&D. Lead sourcing, evaluation, onboarding of external data sources.
  • Build and maintain a multi-year data strategy roadmap.
  • Embed product thinking, FAIR principles, and agile delivery into execution to ensure scalability and reusability.

Ontology & Standards Alignment

  • Ensure Global Development data assets adhere to internal and external standards.
  • Align with industry frameworks (TransCelerate DDF, Pistoia ClinOps-O, CDISC, HL7 FHIR) and internal metadata standards.
  • Partner with Knowledge Management teams to connect strategy deliverables to the enterprise knowledge graph, enabling advanced search, reasoning, and automation.

Internal & External Data Integration

  • Source, evaluate, and integrate operational, regulatory, and scientific datasets from internal teams, CROs, regulators, and trusted external partners.
  • Oversee end-to-end lifecycle management for high-value Global Development data assets — ensuring quality, accessibility, compliance, and interoperability.

Value Realization & KPIs

  • Define and monitor measurable KPIs such as:
    • Acceleration of study startup timelines
    • Improvement in submission readiness scores
    • Increase in data reuse and interoperability across programs
    • Report on strategic impact and adoption progress to business and technical stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement & Adoption

  • Act as a champion for Global Development data strategy across clinical, regulatory, data science, QA, medical writing, safety, and IT teams.
  • Lead adoption activities such as workshops, demos, onboarding sessions, and change management plans.
  • Capture user feedback and continuously refine the roadmap based on evolving business needs.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master's or PhD in a relevant field (Life Sciences, Data Science, Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, etc.) or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years in pharma/biotech R&D, focused on clinical development, data strategy, and governance.
  • Proven success delivering data initiatives in a regulated environment across multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Familiarity with ontologies, semantic modeling, metadata governance, and industry standards.

Skills & Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of the clinical trial lifecycle and regulatory data requirements.
  • Experience in data management, integration, and FAIR principle implementation.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and communicate complex data concepts clearly.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to translate complex data concepts into actionable strategy.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional data initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders.

 Impact

By embedding semantic rigor, governance discipline, and interoperability standards, you will transform how Global Development data is captured, structured, and reused — accelerating timelines, enabling advanced analytics, and strengthening regulatory readiness for all programs.
