Electronics Technician – Optoelectronic Prototyping

Position Overview

ICFO is seeking a highly motivated Electronics Technician – Optoelectronic Prototyping, reporting to the Electronics Head. The successful candidate will join will join the Electronic Workshop at ICFO, providing technical support to research groups and institutional projects in the design, fabrication, and maintenance of electronic and optoelectronic equipment used in scientific experiments.

This call is issued under the framework of the approved ICFO Public Employment Offer (OPO 2025), as approved by the ICFO Board of Trustees and in accordance with Law 14/2011 on Science, Technology and Innovation, Law 9/2022 on the Catalan Science System, the Basic Statute of Public Employees (Royal Legislative Decree 5/2015 – EBEP), and Law 19/2014 on Transparency, Access to Public Information and Good Governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Assembly of special cables, manufacture of printed circuit boards (PCBs), and soldering of electronic components.
• Assembly of customized scientific and optoelectronic instruments involving optical fibers, lasers, light detectors, and related components.
• Diagnose and repair damaged electronic equipment and systems.
• Billing of costs related to electronic components and associated project tasks.
• Creation and maintenance of technical documentation related to electronic systems and workshop activities.

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Minimum 3 years of proven experience in a similar position, ideally within a public research center or laboratory in the STEM field.

Proven experience in:

• Demonstrated hands-on experience in the assembly and testing of electronic circuits and systems, including the use of laboratory instruments (oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, etc.), and troubleshooting and maintenance of electronic equipment.
• Design and fabrication of printed circuit boards (PCBs) using SIEMENS Xpedition, including creating layouts and component libraries within this environment.
• Experience in manufacturing electronic prototype PCBs using LPKF milling machines, along with practical skills in soldering and component assembly.
• Design of electronic enclosures and mechanical parts using FIKUS Visualcam and SIEMENS Solid Edge.
• Proven experience working in collaborative environments using Microsoft Teams and SharePoint in a professional context.

Conditions

This is a full-time position.

The contract offered will be a permanent contract for scientific and technical activities (ACT) linked to the approved Public Employment Offer (Oferta Pública d'Ocupació – OPO) of ICFO and governed by the applicable public-sector labor framework.

A probationary period of 6 months will apply, in accordance with ICFO's internal labor regulations and the applicable public-sector labor framework.

A salary according to ICFO's approved salary scales will be offered, commensurate with the level of the position and the candidate's experience.
