The opportunity

We are currently looking for a Senior Liability/PI Underwriter for our Liability department. This job includes underwriting large, complex or specialist cases to achieve new business and retention targets. You will spend the majority of your time driving underwriting decisions, actively contributing to business development activities and liaising with customers and brokers. You will deal with customers and third parties independently and on a one-to-one basis. You will be a senior member within the Spanish Liability/PI team where you will act as point of contact for junior members in the team. You have strong analytical, relationship management and communication skills.

Some of the responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Reviewing allocated complex and/or large Liability/PI cases and delivering underwriting decisions against company Plans and within agreed timeframes, in order to secure profitable business within authority level and risk appetite.
• Taking ownership and accountability of your Liability/PI book of business of large and complex accounts and being able to deliver on set KPI's as per company Plans.
• Contributing to the creation of segment and local business development plans which identify existing and regular flow of new business opportunities.
• Ensuring an effective relationship with Underwriting and Commercial colleagues and other stakeholders.
• Accessing and applying available UW Tools, Rating Engines, Protocols and technical insights in order to best satisfy the needs of clients and brokers by providing tailored insurance solutions.
• Clearly and positively articulating our proposition and risk appetite.
• Maximising profitable business growth through: Reviewing existing Liability/PI business and/or seeking out and following up on new business cases. Effectively negotiating and delivering underwriting decisions through following agreed processes and designated authority levels. Promptly managing non-standard, large and/or complex Liability/PI cases and if outside of licence escalating to the relevant Business Lead and work with them to deliver an outstanding service to the broker/client. Accessing senior direction and support as appropriate. Developing a trusted, deep and long term relationship with selected brokers to generate progress and close new, up selling and cross selling business opportunities. Managing and working with others to take responsibility for effectively and promptly resolving broker and/or client complaints
• Being aware of and adhering to our regulatory framework at all time.
• Providing guidance and coaching to less qualified/experienced colleagues where appropriate.
• Ensuring the Underwriting Assistant Team & the OPS Team capture and record data in a timely and accurate fashion.
• Following up on timely policy documentation issuing by liaising with the relevant (internal or external) departments.
• Progressing through license levels in line with your individual development plan.

The expertise you bring:

• You have a Bachelor and/or Master degree and solid experience in Liability/PI Underwriting.
• You have an analytic mind and you are comfortable taking ownership and accountability, with a proven ability to execute in accordance with company Plans.
• You have an internal and external network of contacts both within the Functional Liability community and beyond.
• You are a team player and are seen as a role model by peers and more junior staff.
• Your Spanish and English is fluent.
