We're seeking an experienced Java Senior Software Engineer to join our Checkout team in Barcelona or Milan (Hybrid) to deliver the best payment journey to our customers and create and design new financial products for our customers. You will join us in the Payments Domain, where our systems create 100K products every day, and they collect more than €423M in cash revenue per year, while at the same time protecting ourselves from fraud using ML algorithms. What you will do:

The Role's Key Responsibilities and Tasks

As an eDOer, you will have clear objectives, great challenges and a clear overview of how your work contributes to the global company project and its customers. As a Java Senior Software Engineer in the Checkout Team you will:

• Work closely with product owners, data scientists, UX designers to: Integrate & offer customers the most innovative payment methods; Create new innovative payment plans and products; Design and develop a super convenient payment experience; Create an intelligence anti-fraud engine based on big data; Stay ahead of the payments regulations and optimize our collection success.
  
• You will work with cutting edge technologies including Java+11, BigData (Kafka, Cassandra, BigTable, Redis, Neo4j), machine learning and Datamesh in a continuous delivery and cloud based environment (Docker, Kubernetes and GCP). Everything is supported by a high quality monitoring process with Sonarqube and Datadog.
  
• Create distributed, scalable microservices platforms, where software gets deployed daily, with high quality, clean code, SOLID principles, design patterns and TDD.
  
• Promote the use of microservices platforms, clean code and SOLID principles and TDD to the rest of the team.
  
• Be independent when working with the modules on your area of expertise, in any phase of the SDLC.
  
• Design & develop advanced systems and innovative solutions that help us solve big problems related to finance, payments or fraud. Share them with both technical and non technical audiences. 
  
• Code the solutions with the highest quality through good design, attention to detail and test quality. Be a referral of best practices within the team. 
  

You will work in a fully agile organization, using Kanban practices to deliver business value continuously. You will actively participate  in team ceremonies and events, as well as the product definition and ideation processes, as part of a high performing cross functional team, working with other top engineers, product managers, architects, UX designers to design, build, operate and evolve the Payments Domain microservices platform. You will receive mentorship and support to help you develop your career super fast as well as use your senior expertise to mentor and help develop 2 -3 team members.

• Deep understanding of software engineering concepts such as OOP, functional programming, concurrency, data structures, design and architecture patterns, databases, APIs etc.
  
• Experience working with the entire software development cycle, including deploying to production and testing (both unit and integration), as well as Cloud and Continuous Delivery environments.
  
• Strong data driven capabilities, analytical skills, design pattern skills and creativity that will allow you to solve complex business and customer problems.
  
• Ambition to be the best and provide resilient, high performing, well dimensioned solutions to complex problems. 
  
• Strong focus on quality, and a technical excellence mindset, also for continuous learning and improvement, growth and innovation.

• Experience working in Agile environments with a focus on Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD).

• Experience with Applied AI Tools: Demonstrated comfort using practical AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or other AI-powered coding assistants.
• Experimentation Mindset: Curiosity and eagerness to explore, experiment with, and integrate emerging AI-driven solutions into software development workflows.
• AI-Enhanced Problem Solving: Ability to effectively leverage AI tools to debug code, streamline development processes, and enhance productivity.
• Adaptability and Learning Agility: Enthusiastic about continuously learning and quickly adapting to new AI features and capabilities.
• Collaboration with AI: Experience or interest in collaborating closely with AI tools as "pair programmers" to complement traditional software development practices.
