HUBMASTER is an industrial automation company specialized in Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (ASRS) and advanced material-handling solutions. We design, manufacture, integrate, and support high-availability industrial systems operating 24/7 in complex environments worldwide.

As part of our technology roadmap, we are creating an internal Applied AI Lab focused on transforming industrial data and automation knowledge into robust, deployable AI solutions.

The Role

We are seeking a
Doctor (PhD)
to join HUBMASTER as Head of Applied AI, responsible for founding and leading our internal AI Lab and coordinating all AI-related initiatives across the company.

This role owns all AI-related initiatives across the company, from strategy to deployment, with a clear focus on industrial applicability, robustness, and measurable business impact. You will work closely with executive management and with engineering, automation, software, operations, and service teams to ensure that AI initiatives deliver measurable industrial value.

This is not a research role. It is a hands-on leadership position where advanced AI meets real machines, real data, and real constraints.

Key Responsibilities

AI Strategy & Governance

  • Define and lead HUBMASTER's Applied AI strategy and roadmap.
  • Establish standards, tools, and governance for AI development and deployment.
  • Act as the company's AI authority at executive and technical levels.

Industrial AI Applications

  • Lead applied AI projects related to data-driven optimization of ASRS operations and service activities
  • Ensure AI solutions are robust, explainable, and deployable in industrial environments.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Drive AI initiatives across mechanical, electrical, automation, software, service, and operations teams.
  • Translate operational and business problems into well-defined AI use cases.
  • Ensure seamless integration with existing control systems, WCS, and enterprise platforms.

AI Lab & Team Building

  • Mentor the team and promote best practices in applied AI and MLOps.
  • Create a culture focused on reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability.

From Data to Production

  • Oversee the full AI lifecycle: data acquisition, model development, validation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Define KPIs to measure the real operational impact of AI solutions.
  • Ensure cybersecurity, ethical use of AI, and compliance with industrial standards.

Required Profile

  • PhD (Doctorate)
    in Applied Artificial Intelligence, Industrial Engineering, Advanced Automation, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong background in machine learning, deep learning, and data-driven modeling.
  • Proven experience delivering applied AI solutions beyond prototypes.
  • Ability to work with imperfect, real-world industrial data.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, able to engage both engineers and executives.
  • Pragmatic mindset: focused on solutions that work in production.
  • Experience in industrial automation, robotics, logistics, manufacturing, or complex machinery.
  • Experience with computer vision in industrial contexts.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, edge computing, and MLOps.
