NXGN Resources is Hiring for a Leading Renewable Energy Company: Director of BESS (Spain)

Location: Spain (with regular travel across Europe)

About the Role

NXGN Resources is partnering with a leading renewable energy company to recruit an experienced Head of BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) for its growing Spanish operations.

In this strategic leadership role, you will shape and execute the company's BESS strategy across Spain—ensuring the successful development of technically robust, economically sound, and fully permitted energy storage projects. Acting as the central coordinator, you'll bring together cross-functional teams, regulatory authorities, and key stakeholders to deliver ready-to-build BESS projects that accelerate Europe's renewable energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Strategy: Develop and implement the national BESS strategy in alignment with corporate goals and evolving market trends.

Project Development: Oversee the full BESS project lifecycle—from feasibility and permitting to environmental assessments and stakeholder engagement.

Grid Integration: Identify optimal grid connection points with the Grid Expert, balancing technical requirements and economic efficiency.

Regulatory Oversight: Stay abreast of regulatory frameworks to secure timely, compliant project approvals.

Financial Management: Oversee project budgets and forecasts, prepare reports and business cases in coordination with Finance and Trading teams.

Technical Coordination: Define BESS system specifications in collaboration with the Head of Engineering and technical experts.

Land & Permitting: Support land acquisition and permitting activities with Development and GIS teams.

Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with grid operators, regulators, landowners, and other partners.

Grid Negotiations: Manage capacity requests and negotiate optimal interconnection conditions to ensure project success.

Requirements

Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Technology, or a related field.

10+ years of experience in energy infrastructure development, including 3–5 years in utility-scale BESS projects.

In-depth understanding of battery technologies (e.g., lithium-ion), storage applications, interconnection, and energy market participation.

Strong analytical, strategic, and leadership skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.

Proven track record of leading large-scale, complex energy projects from inception to completion.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences.

Willingness to travel frequently and work independently in a dynamic environment.
