As the
Head of Data Engineering
, you will lead the strategy, architecture, and execution of
Appodeal's data platform
.

You'll manage a team of data engineers and collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product teams to ensure our data systems are scalable, reliable, and efficient.

You will be responsible for building the foundation that powers AI-driven products, business intelligence, and performance optimization across all Appodeal entities.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Strategy

• Define and execute the data engineering vision and roadmap aligned with company strategy and CTO's goals.

• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing global team of data engineers.
• Foster a culture of excellence, ownership, and innovation within the data organization.

• Architecture & Infrastructure

• Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale data pipelines and storage solutions.

• Ensure data availability, consistency, and quality across multiple data sources and products.
• Own infrastructure decisions related to data lake, data warehouse, and streaming systems.

• Collaboration & Enablement

• Partner with data science, product, and analytics teams to ensure smooth data accessibility and delivery.

• Collaborate with engineering leads to embed data best practices into product development.
• Support AI and ML initiatives within the Data Science Hub.

• Operational Excellence

• Ensure data systems meet high standards of reliability, scalability, and security.

• Optimize cost, performance, and monitoring of cloud-based infrastructure.
• Implement data governance, compliance, and privacy standards (GDPR, CCPA).

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or head role.
• Proven experience designing and scaling data pipelines for large-scale systems (terabyte/petabyte scale).
• Expertise with technologies such as Spark, Airflow, Kafka, BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or similar.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern data orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with cloud environments (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL design, and real-time streaming.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience in AdTech, MarTech, or high-scale B2B platforms is a strong plus.

We are looking for candidates who are already in Barcelona or excited to relocate. Being local is a great advantage, helping you connect closely with teams and hit the ground running.

• Familiarity with ML pipelines and data ops practices.

• Knowledge of monetization, user acquisition, or programmatic advertising systems.
