3D Animation

We are looking for a 3D Lead Layout artist to join our offices in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. You will play a critical role in shaping the visual language of our projects,  not only by executing layout tasks, but also by providing artistic and technical leadership to the layout team, ensuring a cohesive and high-quality final product.

/ YOUR ROLE:

• Mentoring and Guiding: Mentoring junior and mid-level artists, providing clear feedback, and guiding the team to maintain a consistent visual style and technical standard across all scenes.
• Creative and Technical Leadership: Interpreting storyboards and animatics to lead the team in defining camera composition, framing, and movement for complex sequences. You will champion the use of cinematic techniques to create impactful shots that serve the narrative.
• Workflow and Pipeline Development: Partnering with supervisors and pipeline developers to identify, design, and implement tools, scripts, and workflows that enhance the team's efficiency and artistic capabilities.
• Scene Assembly and Polish: Overseeing the assembly of 3D environments and assets, ensuring that background elements and set dressing contribute effectively to the scene's mood and narrative. You will also be responsible for final camera placement and animation, ensuring a polished look and feel.
• Communication and Collaboration: Acting as the primary liaison between the layout team and other departments, including animation, lighting, and rigging. You will work closely with the Director and Animation Director to translate their vision into effective 3D scenes.
• Problem-Solving: Proactively identifying and resolving technical and creative challenges within the layout pipeline, maintaining continuity between shots, and ensuring the team delivers on schedule.

/ WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

• Leadership Experience: Prior experience in a senior or lead role within an animation or VFX studio, with a track record of mentoring and managing a team of artists.
• Cinematic Expertise: A master-level understanding of cinematic principles, including camera language, composition, lighting, and visual rhythm. You should have a strong portfolio demonstrating your ability to tell compelling stories through staging and shot design.
• Technical Proficiency: Exceptional knowledge of Maya, including a methodical approach to scene organization and an ability to create clean, animation-ready scene files. Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python) and an understanding of pipeline automation are highly valued.
• Problem-Solving Skills: A highly proactive and structured approach to troubleshooting complex issues, whether they are artistic or technical.
• Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and provide constructive feedback to a team.
• Portfolio: A strong reel or portfolio that showcases a deep understanding of layout for both animated and realistic projects. This should highlight your ability to handle diverse scenes and your mastery of cinematic techniques.

• Office-based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.
• Working shift: Monday to Thursday 08.00 to 16.00, Friday 08.00 to 14.00.
• Contract type: project, estimated duration 18 months. Opportunity for continued employment through successive projects.
