Government Relations Manager

The International Government Relations (GR) team has been central to **supporting the business through continued growth and pre-empting our expansion plans**. Headed up by Dr Alexander Ernert, our GR Director - Europe (a proven expert in the regulatory field within international transportation), the team serves as an internal and external **ambassador of Trainline to the various governments **in key markets as well as the EU Parliament. In this newly created role, you’ll be working closely with a variety of functions including Communications, Legal and Commercial **forging the foundations for Trainline’s future commercial development in Europe**.

**Purpose of the role:
**- Reporting to the GR Director Europe,** the role will strengthen Trainline’s (TL) voice and reputation in Spain**, in support of the company’s growth plans.
- The objective is** to positively impact the operating environment **in TL key markets through the advancement of policy and regulatory goals with the Spanish government and other key institutions and audiences.
- **Supporting development of strategy and leading execution of a clear GR tactical plan under the guidance of the GR Director,** Europe closely with other internal functions, including legal and commercial, to advance TL interests through policy influencing and wider lobbying
- **Ensuring Spanish GR activity is closely aligned to commercial goals across key markets**:

- Measurable movement of sentiment among targeted political, regulatory, business and stakeholder audiences.

**Responsibilities:
**- Build understanding and monitoring together with the GR Director Europe,** of the public policy development process in Spain**, specifically tying into the advancement of our growth goals in wider markets.
- **Influencing the development of Spanish policy as it relates to independent rail retailers through a focused and sustained programme of GR activities**, developing detailed market-by-market tactical plans.
- Acting together with the GR Director Europe as lead representative of TL in interaction with **identified political, regulatory, commercial and media audiences in Spain.**:

- **Developing and operating a clear network of contacts to advance TL goals,** including, but not limited to, Government, Parliament, relevant trade associations, Spanish railway authority, think tanks, commentators, and media.
- Ability to personally drive thought leadership **through speeches, events, written and oral content.**:

- Advising and advocating with internal TL audiences at senior, peer, and junior levels.
- ** Developing clear OKRs** and **measurement techniques** to demonstrate impact on key audiences.
- The role is a key part of the business and is critical to company performance in the Spanish market. **Ability to be effective in this space is essential to the company’s broader commercial performance**.
- ** Develop and execute communications plans to support general business processes and events** (for example, acquisitions and disposals, re-structuring, operating model changes etc) that will enhance reputation and drive value for stakeholders.

**Knowledge & Experience**:

- Track record of advocating in Spain.** Proven network** of personal contacts in the **mobility **sector at senior levels of **political**, **regulatory, media** and **commercial organisations.**:

- **Gravitas to operate** at a senior level internally **in advising** the CEO, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, GR Director Europe and others. Externally proven ability to engage senior political, regulatory, media and commercial audiences.
