Laboratory Technician

VHIR offers a vacant position for a laboratory technician with experience in experimental animal models for the Nephrology and Transplantation Research Group.

**Education and qualifications**:
**Required**:

- Laboratory technician CFGS or FP2 certificate (Cicle Formatiu de Grau Superior (CFGS) / Formació Professional de Segon Grau (FPII).
- Accreditation to manipulate experimental animals.
- Fluency in Catalan, Spanish and English.

**Experience and knowledge**:
**Required**:

- At least 4 years’ experience of animal and laboratory work in research-related projects.
- Proven experience in animal (preferably mice and rats) handling, product administration, welfare monitoring and sacrifice.
- Previous experience in animal surgery.
- Previous experience in immunohistochemistry and basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, Western Blot, ELISA, etc.) and cell cultures.
- Lab management skills (analytical, organizational and time management).

**Desired**:

- Computer skills for the generation of databases
- We are looking for a person who has a proven hands-on attitude, flexible and adaptable. Additionally, the following personals skills are desirable:

- Teamwork
- Proactivity (ability to work independently when necessary)
- Well-organized and responsible person at work

**Main responsibilities and duties**:

- Performance of heart transplantation in mice, and follow-up.
- Performance of skin transplantation in mice, and follow-up.
- Product administration, blood sample collection, welfare monitoring and sacrifice.
- Harvesting and processing (either fixing or isolation of cells) organs and tissues.
- Manage sample processing (blood, spleen and bone marrow from both humans and animals).
- Immunohistochemistry.
- Generate and manage sample databases.
- She or he will be trained to perform immune monitoring assays such as T-cell and B-cell ELISPOT assay and ELISA. Flow cytometry and PCR techniques will also be taught and will be required at the laboratory.
- Collaborate with the organization/design of experimental work.
- Give support in basic laboratory tasks.

**Labour conditions**:

- Full-time position: 40h/week.
- Starting date: immediate.
- Gross annual salary: 22.000 - 24.000 euros /// (Remuneration will depend on experience and skills. Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale)
- Contract: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to the project activities
