Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011. The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions. IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA). **DUTIES**: - Development/maintenance of pipelines tailored to specific aims including apps for recurring genomic analyses. - Supervise lab code development, ensuring it is executed efficiently and in accordance with the best practice guidelines of research environment standards. - Contribute to the existing codebase in collaboration with other team members, including debugging, refactoring and enhancing legacy code. - Document new code, and make improvements to existing documentation. - Contribute to establishment and maintenance of Data Science resources on-site. Track, archive and actively manage raw and processed data in accordance with established procedures and policies. - Providing training and assistance in computational methods as required. - Participate in inter-organizational projects as technical resource and provides técnical support feedback. - Adopt, test and benchmark analytical packages for incorporation into analyses and standardised pipelines. - Prepare Technical Reports in cooperation with the P.I **EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS**: **Must Have - Required**: - A Master degree in Bioinformatics or Computational-related Sciences - 5+ years of experience in biomedical data analytics, including pipelines development, in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary academic or industrial environment. - Advanced computer skills in Python|R (data analysis, visualization and exploration packages) and with scientific workflow systems (Nextflow, Snakemake). Experience working with open-source software. - Experience with high performance computing (parallel execution, computational pipelines, workload managers ). - Experience in cloud computing. - Experience in collaborative software development using Git. - Fluency in English **Desirable** - Experience in the development, generation and use of software containers, e.g. Docker, Singularity. - Capable to write technical documentation within specialty and identify topics for these. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. - Experience in international teams. Ability to work independently and within a collaborative research team, and ability to comply with tight deadlines. - **WORKING CONDITIONS & ENTITLEMENTS**: - **Working conditions**: Permanent Contract linked to the projects: Prominent Grand Challenge Consortium, “Discovering the molecular signatures of cancer PROMotion to INform prevENTion” and "Somatic mutations and clonal hematopoiesis as predictors and drivers of heart failure progression". Employed in compliance with Spanish legislation and regulations under a full-time contract.
