**Reference** 2023-FIX-41 **Deadline** 15/12/2024 **Division** Experiments - Institution - ALBA is the Spanish synchrotron light source, a large research infrastructure operating ten beamlines, complementary facilities, and an Electron Microscopy Center, this last in partnership with other institutions. Currently constructing multiple more beamlines, expanding the Electron Microscopy Center, and integrating advanced data analytics, it sums up a wide range of infrastructures geared toward finding solutions to societal challenges. Located in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain), it is funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament de Recerca i Universitats). The synchrotron light produced by 3 GeV electrons is used by thousands of researchers to analyse and understand the properties and functionality of matter, spanning a wide variety of fields, such as catalytic research, health, energy production/storage, environmental research, communication technologies, or cultural heritage. The facility offers to academic and proprietary researchers a variety of techniques capable to elucidate the structure and chemical composition of biological matter. Several biological laboratories which amount to more than 200m2 are available to support the research of the visiting groups, as well as the research carried out in-house. The laboratories include a general laboratory, a cold room at 4º C and two dedicated laboratories with biosafety level 2. For more information, you can take a look on our history watching this video: - Tasks - As a highly motivated and well-trained employee with good technical skills in biology, you will work at the biological laboratories (BioLab) located at the Experimental Hall close to the life science beamlines. The main role of the BioLab is to provide state-of-the-art scientific equipment and services in different areas of life sciences research to ALBA instruments, to the growing academic and industrial community. You will find the ideal conditions, to thrive and perform an interesting and important function in this multidisciplinary, diverse, and international work environment. Specifically, you will: - The technician will develop tasks and workflows at the Biolab as the person in charge of its technical management. - Provide technical support to the BioLab's services offered to users and beamlines. - Be in charge of the maintenance of the BioLab equipment. - Support on-going experiments on the laboratory which includes support for experiment setup and sample preparation to users and beamline staff. - Control that all safety regulations are followed at the BioLab. - Maintain the stock products and carry out the purchase orders required for the correct functioning of the laboratory. - Update of inventories, lab protocols and OIS. - Technical supervision of internship students. - RequirementsApplications that do not present the aforementioned or required documentation during the selection procedure will not be accepted. - Hold an advanced professional training course ("ciclo formativo de grado superior") in biological laboratory techniques, or a life sciences degree, and must have work experience of at least 3 years as a biological laboratory technician. - Have a good level of English both written and spoken. The working language at ALBA is English. - Selection Process Development - The selection will be carried out through the competition-opposition system. As a first phase, an analysis of the curriculum will be carried out (assessment of previous experience, education, training and other professional information relevant to the position). The assessment of the CV in the competition phase will be scored up to 40 points, and will consider the following aspects: - Educated or work experience in protein production and crystallization. (10 points). - Educated or work experience in cell culture. (10 points) - Educated or work experience in sample preparation for cryo-microscopy.
