Environment Surfacing Senior Artist

While all Animation studios look to hire people who are creative and hard-working, Skydance Animation is specifically looking for pioneers who seek to push the limits of what the world’s most collaborative art form can achieve, and to give those pioneers the space and the resources to build a new studio that’s doing something different.An Environment Surfacing Senior Artist works with the Production team, Art Director, Environment Supervisor and Visual Effects Supervisor to create the desired look for the environment that may reflect any of a wide variety of styles.

**Responsibilities**:

- Paints stylized and/or realistic textures from concepts following the look of the show.
- Creates procedural textures from Substance designer.
- Ability to create, adapt, and iterate, within a variety of artistic styles.
- Ability to properly research and work independently in absence of concept art.
- Understands and translates the vision of the Production Designer into the look of the movie.
- Keeps up on current artistic methodologies and on technology trends and tools that best suit the production and the company in the development of a stronger creative and technical environment.
- Clearly understands UVs and texture layout.
- Possess the ability to create procedural shaders.
- Follows accurately references and directions to create the desired look of a surface.
- Ability to troubleshoot and create templates or tools.
- Works together with the team providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that contribute towards their artistic and professional growth.
- Follows the Supervisor’s and Lead's guidance.
- Collaborating with Modeling/Set Dressing/Lighting counterparts by understanding needs, establishing, and respecting requirements of environment and assets.
- Ability to adapt to an alive workflow and changes.

**Requirements**:

- 5+ years in VFX or animation industries.
- 3+ years in the animation industry.
- High experience in Arnold and/or Renderman.
- High experience in Substance package and/or Mari.
- Shows strong artistic or/and technical aptitude related to 3D animation or VFX.
- Possesses deep knowledge of creating UVs.
- Knowledge of lighting, modeling, and optimization.
- Strong artistic or/and technical aptitude related to 3D animation.
- Management of large scenes, huge locations, or complex sequences.
- Knowledge of Houdini, Solaris or Katana is desirable.
- USD and/or OSL knowledge is a **plus**.
- Knowledge in vegetation workflow (instances and scatter) is a **plus**.
- Understanding of displacement workflow (maps and geo output) is a **plus**.
- High English level desirable.
- Spanish desirable.
