Our aim is to ensure the continuity of care for the patient with acquired brain injury during the different stages of the rehabilitation process including novel technologies The Neurological Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Unit (Neurorehabilitation Knowledge Area) has participated together with the Neurovascular Research Laboratory (VHIR), in three research projects funded by the Carlos III Health Institute, aimed at finding biomarkers to monitor and predict the recovery of stroke patients after intensive rehabilitation programs (PRI). The aim of this research is to be able to find neuro-repair markers that allow us to individualize rehabilitation therapies and move towards personalized neurorehabilitation medicine. Another of our lines of work includes the validation of novel technologies: a virtual reality (VR) system for upper extremity rehabilitation in stroke patients, the Rehabilitation Gaming System (RGS) developed and validated by a European consortium funded by the European Commission through the "ambient assisted living" (AAL) program and the Spanish national project SANAR. We are currently part of a European consortium for the development and validation of an ecosystem with VR and augmented reality for the telerehabilitation of stroke patients.
