**Job Description**:
The devices we make at SEL are embedded in the power grid. They prevent blackouts. They make outages safer and shorter in duration; they add cybersecurity, automation, and communication. They use cutting-edge technologies and operate at speeds that push other pieces of the grid to go faster. As a Project Engineer - Automation* in Engineering Services, you’ll provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.

**As a Project Engineer - Automation*, a typical day might include the following**:

- Commissioning projects in the field
- Designing automation and power system solutions for customers
- Working alongside Project Managers, Technical Leads, and Engineers from other focus areas
- Extensive networking and programming
- Development of relay/controller settings
- Preparation of functional design documentation

**This job might be for you if**:

- You enjoy working with logic engines, configuring networks, and SEL products
- You have good power systems knowledge and understanding of communication protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus, etc.)
- You have experience with IEC-61131 programming
- You have 2+ years of automation/power systems experience
- You have demonstrated knowledge of substation safety guidelines, including grounding philosophies, IED testing philosophies, isolation and restoration plan development
- You are willing to travel both domestically and internationally as required, at least 50% (eligible for additional compensation)
- You have strong communication skills in English and Italian
