The context and the opportunity
As part of our plan to continue to build profitable growth, we want to expand our geographic footprint by opening an office in Barcelona.
If you want to play an active role in this fantastic adventure within a successful organisation with strong growth ambitions, this is an exciting opportunity to join our company as Regional Manager for Barcelona.
Reporting into the Underwriting Manager you will be responsible for an Underwriting business area consisting of a number of portfolios or unit functions in accordance with the business plan for the Catalonian region, but also for Broker Management and Distribution Strategy in that geographical area. In addition, leverage major trading partners and provincial brokers in securing heightened retention, upsell and cross sell and significant uplift in ‘new’ new business for all lines of business.
Your new role
- Ensure delivery of the annual business plan for the portfolio(s), monitor and report on progress to achieve business objectives.
- Recommend, implement and manage the resources needed to deliver the plan in the most effective way.
- Ensure teams awareness of strategic direction of portfolio(s) to achieve delivery of business objectives.
- Manage and support the portfolio team to ensure that people, resources, and processes are aligned with business needs and fit for purpose.
- Initiate new ideas and concepts to support the development and delivery of the business plan in the region.
- Promote the department, division, and company as a whole, to maximize brand leverage.
- Identify synergies and cross selling opportunities.
- Support the UW Manager, Market Manager and General Manager with developing strategic direction and the delivery of the region’s business plan.
- Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure objectives are met.
- Adhere to underwriting standards and good practice to minimize risks and maximize efficiency.
- Understand and comply with any reinsurance requirements to minimize risk and to deliver to business plan objectives.
- Recommend systems and reports to ensure the book of business is managed efficiently and effectively |
- Monitor performance against the business plan.
- Liaise with the claims, actuarial and distribution functions to obtain information for managing risks.
- Monitor and report on progress of the International and Regional broker plans (new business and renewal retention)Liaise with the Distribution and relationship management team when appropriate to ensure activity is aligned with QBE strategy.
- Monitor and review QBE distribution performance to ensure progress toward business plan objectives.
About you
- At least 10 years with an Underwriting experience and ideally a market management experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Strong negotiating skills and networking skills.
- Excellent presentation skills and strong leadership and influencing abilities.
- Ability to inspire others and build an effective team.
- Strong reasoning capabilities - creative and lateral thinking, good problem-solving skills and ability to analyse and use data for decision making.
- Use of risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models.
- Fluent English communication skills (oral and written)
