Research Officer for The Drug Screening Platform

Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011. The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions. IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA). IRB Barcelona is seeking a Research Officer, with proven skills in Drug Screening committed to the challenge of providing excellent service in an international research environment to support chemical biology and drug discovery activities. **DUTIES**: - Prepare experimental plans within scope of defined new projects. - To carry out of assay development for both, biochemical and cellular assays. - Undertake High Throughput Screenings (HTSs) and secondary hit profiling assays. - The execution of assays to support H2L and LO campaigns. - Analyze data providing conclusions and technical insight. - Compound management. - Use and programming of automated screening platforms. - Attend courses, meetings and undertake any required formal training to improve their scientific capabilities. - Maintain a broad and up to date level of scientific awareness in all aspects of screening discipline. **EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS**: **Must Have - Required**: - **Experience**: - PhD in Bioscience - More than 5 HTS ( > 40.000 compounds each) executed - Proficient with assay development, High Throughput Screening (HTS) and compound profiling for both, biochemical and cellular assays. - Familiar with a wide range of targets and phenotypes (enzymes, PPis, GPCRs, viability, protein expression etc) and technologies (Alpha, HTRF, FP, luminescence, TRIC, Spectral Shift Assay, etc). - Familiar with HTS sample processing, data generation, data interpretation and data reporting. - Familiar in programming Echo 650, Cell Explorer, Hamilton Vantage, Envision, multidrop, Dianthus pico, Dragonfly. - Use of analysis platforms such as Vortex and studies. - **Knowledge**:on drug discovery processes, screening equipment and technologies and a wide range of protein targets, and on how to address the assay development for each one. - **Skills**: - Good Planning skills - Detail-oriented - Well organized - Clear sense of accountability - Teamwork skills - Customer orientation - Strong initiative and innovation abilities - Ability to learn tasks quickly - Enthusiasm and self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently and able to coordinate lab activities. **Desirable**: - **Experience**: Microscopy, Flow cytometry and SPR **WORKING CONDITIONS & ENTITLEMENTS**: - **Working conditions**: Permanent Contract.
