We are seeking a Senior Economist to join our team here at Historic England. As our new senior economist, you will help us better understand, demonstrate and communicate the economic value of our historic environment. The historic environment is intrinsically linked to economic activity, with a large number of economic activities occurring within it, dependent on it or attracted to it.

What you will be doing

As Senior Economist you will be highly influential in the Heritage sector's evidence building capability. In particular you will lead on the development of new valuation techniques that better capture the total value of heritage including non-use values of heritage. You will work closely with internal and external colleagues, particularly the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS) on the developing and [pushing the boundaries of the culture and heritage capital approach.

In this specialist analytical role, you will focus on conducting and commissioning economic analysis on behalf of Historic England and the wider heritage sector. You will develop our approach to economic measurement of the historic environment, strongly guided by current government guidelines and robust economic research.

You will work with passionate colleagues and stakeholders including academics and central government departments, to develop and deliver robust evidence that can influence policy and that demonstrates Historic England's public value and value for money in its broadest sense.

What we are looking for
- Completion of relevant degree-level module(s) in economics or significant relevant experience.
- Substantial experience of designing research programmes with an economic focus, and/or delivering these types of projects for clients.
- A proven ability to analyse and interpret complex data and information to draw clear conclusions using economic research methods and techniques.
- Proficiency in using Excel, statistical packages, and more general IT skills including Word and Outlook.
- Good administrative and written communication skills.
- The ability to organise and deliver outputs to a tight timeline and under pressure.
