Energy Markets (EM) is the market focused heart of the SSE Group, securing value for SSE's asset portfolios in wholesale energy markets as we move towards our vision of being a leading energy company in a net zero world. We play a critical role as the short-term energy market asset optimiser, and a long-term energy market adviser, for all SSE's Business Units (across SSE's Wind, Hydro, Low Carbon Thermal, Distributed Energy and Customer portfolios). Through the Energy Economics team, EM offers market insights to support the wider SSE PLC portfolio, including the SSE Renewables (SSER) business.

What is the Role?

We have an exciting opening for a Senior Renewable Energy Market Analyst to join our Energy Economics Team who act as the long-term advisor to the various SSE business units. You will play a critical part in developing and continually enhancing the support we provide to SSE Renewables, assisting them in their ambition to expand into new markets outside of GB and Ireland. This role will be focused on Southern European Markets, where SSE has an extensive portfolio of onshore renewables assets. In addition, there will be a secondary requirement to support the development of the inhouse view of other European power markets. You will work in a dynamic, intellectually stimulating, and demanding yet supportive environment and will enjoy autonomy and opportunities to substantially influence major decisions in the business.

**Your key responsibilities will include**:
Producing research into relevant electricity markets, providing novel analysis, market modelling, price outlooks, and other relevant cost/revenue assumptions needed to assess opportunities to invest in renewable energy internationally.

Collecting and managing data on target markets, as well as researching and interpreting Government policy, market design and renewable support mechanisms.

Producing the market related workstreams to support the development of SSER’s onshore renewable portfolio, providing critical inputs and insights to guide strategy and investment appraisal.

Regular engagement with external market advisors, reviewing and critiquing their outlooks to provide insights.

Communicating insights through a combination of discussions, reports, and presentations.

What do I need?

**To be successful in this role, we would ideally like you to**:
Have a broad knowledge of the energy sector, experience in forecasting, energy consulting, market modelling or related experience is highly valued.

Demonstrate good business acumen and be able to focus on the commercial implications of insights obtained through research.

Data-handling skills; the role involves managing large volumes of data for analysis; strong Excel skills are desirable, experience in specialist tools appreciated (VBA, Access, Python, Power Bi, etc.).

Research techniques & skills; experience producing analysis/modelling for the power sector or comparable market is desirable.

Strong sense of curiosity and keen interest in problem solving; willing to take the initiative and ownership of the delivery of work.
