- The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.

The funding for these actions/fellowships and contracts comes from the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility - Next Generation, within the framework of the General Invitation by the public business entity Red.es to participate in the talent attraction and retention programs within Investment 4 of Component 19 of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.**Key Duties**
- Leading the development and implementation of damage and fracture models applied to different types of materials based on AI techniques (UQ, ML, DMN).
- Leading algorithmic and computational optimizations of several parts of the solid mechanics codes for its portability to new GPUs and other HPC architectures oriented to boost the generation and use of AI based modelling.
- Contribute to scientific publications and report to different projects in which the researcher will be involved.

**Requirements**:

- Education
- PhD degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical engineering with a focus on High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Extensive experience in developing in-house FEM codes to tackle multi-physics challenges in structural mechanics.
- Proven experience using large-scale HPC facilities for FEA.
- Experience with parallel programming models for modern CPU architectures, particularly using MPI and OpenMP.
- Experience with GPU acceleration technologies, specifically utilizing CUDA or OpenACC.
- Expert proficiency in a compiled programming language, with a preference for Fortran, though expertise in C or C++ is also valuable.
- Strong skills in Python for scripting and data processing.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in Spanish and other European languages would be advantageous.
- Proficient in integrating thermal, chemical, and fluid interactions within complex material systems to enhance multiphysics simulations.
- Deep understanding of advanced fracture mechanics techniques, including cohesive zone and phase-field fracture models.
- Strong knowledge of composite materials, including their behavior, modeling, and failure analysis.
- Skilled in using open-source pre
- and post-processing tools, such as Gmsh and ParaView.
- Knowledge of commercial software, such as Abaqus, ANSYS or COMSOL, is an advantage.
- International experience in leading research institutions is highly valued.
