**Position Description**
- NYU Madrid is seeking a local part-time instructor to teach the course “Spanish Culture Through Cinema.” The course will run during the Spring semesters, beginning in Spring 2026 (January 19-May 12).**Course Description**
- “Spanish Culture Through Cinema” offers an introduction to the rich body of film produced in Spain over the last 75 years, with attention to its cultural context. Students learn the fundamentals of film theory and analysis, and consider such questions as: what is the relationship between film and politics? How have films engaged with milestones in Spanish history, including the period of the Republic, Civil War, dictatorship, the transition to democracy, and new social and political formations of the present? How does cinema reflect and impact changing social mores, gender codes, and approaches to race and migration? Filmmakers studied may include Buñuel, Cuerda, Almodóvar, Coixet, Bollaín, and more. Taught in Spanish, this course allows students to develop their skills as critical thinkers and writers in Spanish while they engage with a major expressive medium of Spanish culture. The course will also include related experiential learning visits in the city of Madrid.
