We are currently looking for an Editor in the humanities and social sciences to join our team.
That’s an amazing opportunity - Web of Science Core Collection is a trusted, high-quality, definitive database for journals, books, and conference proceedings. We are guided by the legacy of Dr Eugene Garfield, inventor of the world’s first citation index: we remain true to his principles of objectivity, selectivity, and collection dynamics, but also adapt and respond to technological advances and changes in the publishing landscape.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to further their knowledge of the publishing landscape and to contribute to the growth and curation of the Web of Science.
About You - experience, education, skills, and accomplishments- BA./BSc. or equivalent in a relevant discipline- Relevant experience at a reputable HSS publisher, or equivalent academic experience, e.g., PhD in a relevant discipline (Humanities & Social Sciences)- Native English or high level of English language proficiency- Familiarity with the conventions of, and developments in, scholarly publishing- Knowledge of how bibliometrics are used in editorial and academic research contexts- Able to make data-driven decisions- Strong Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
It would be great if you also had...- High levels of customer focus, with excellent written and verbal communication skills- Meticulous attention to detail, critical appraisal skills, and proven ability to take ownership of decisions
What will you be doing in this role?- Evaluate humanities and/or social science journals in line with the Web of Science editorial quality and impact criteria- Investigate, resolve, and reply to enquiries from editors and publishers regarding coverage and selection criteria- Own coverage-related decisions and ensure these are completed and clearly communicated to journal editors and publishers according to defined KPIs- Collaborate within the Web of Science editorial team to ensure efficiency and consistency of decision making- Contribute towards the maintenance and curation of dynamic collections of scholarly journals for indexing in the Web of Science Core Collection- Actively participate in team discussions about policy, process, and workflows- Keep up with developments in the publishing industry that could influence Web of Science editorial processes- Support colleagues as needed in ensuring a smooth handover from content selection to content indexing
About the Team- You will be reporting to a Team Leader who is a senior editor in the Web of Science editorial team- We are a global team of more than 20 colleagues based in USA, UK, Spain, Serbia and India- Active volunteering community, with 40 annual paid hours of volunteering time- A modern culture environment combined with all the financial and stability advantages of working for a large business- Digital and office workplace in a central office location (hybrid mode)
Hours of Work
This is a permanent full-time position at 40 hours a week (35 hours during July and August). The position is hybrid and will require that you be in our Barcelona central office 2-3 times per week.
