Dow Jones is looking for a Design Technologist to help support Dow Jones' B2B Products via a new unified design system. A Design Technologist will be a critical member of our Design System team; they will be fluent in development and design, have a passion for code and UX, and possess a solid understanding of accessibility and usability concerns. Whilst understanding UX, they should equally understand UI and know how to contribute to frontend development processes, strategy and planning.

In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating a versatile multi-brand design system, working closely with UX designers and front-end engineers supporting our B2B business which includes products such as Factiva, Risk & Compliance and Newswires. As part of an on-going initiative, you will be a critical part of establishing our unified design system, guiding definition and implementation, as well as evangelizing across departments.

The Design Technologist reports to the Design System Manager.

**Responsibilities**:

- Support the definition and implementation of the Design System, from theming to delivery
- Ensure that the Figma library is kept up to date and is built with best practices.
- Plan and provide the UI strategy and help lead sprint definition, planning & backlog refinement
- Create and participate in documentation for the Design System, particularly for governance
- Evangelize the role to the design, engineering, and product teams & help them learn how best to work together
- Be a partner to Experience designers and front-end engineers, integrating the design system into the UX process
- Guide UX designers and front-end engineers toward robust, accessible solutions that work in a variety of scenarios
- Help to assess the technical impact of design decisions, and ensure consideration of lower-impact options that can achieve the same design intent
- Ensure that designs for new and existing experiences maintain consistency in the design system
- Participate in UX design reviews and pass descriptions of needed DS work to make them a reality to Product Owners and Project Managers
- Familiarize self & team with tools that help operationalize and bring efficiencies to design activities
- Ensure solutions are accessibility-first
- Serve as an evangelizer for design systems within and outside the department, provide updates and presentations to stakeholders, the digital department, and external partners such as the Accessibility Working Group as part of your role as a design system evangelizer
- Independently deliver on projects and work with others on distributed teams
- Contribute to other projects as required
- Serve as an advocate for our users, keeping their needs at the heart of our digital products

**Requirements**:

- BA/BS degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
- 4+ years of relevant work experience in software development/UX, with preference for prior experience as a UX Engineer/Design Technologist
- Experience in designing and implementing user interfaces (UIs) for responsive web and native apps
- Prior experience as a lead designer, design technologist, or UX engineer working with large-scale design systems (examples: along the lines of IBM’s Carbon, Salesforce Lightning, USA Gov, or UK Gov, etc.)
- Fluency with web technologies (object - oriented JavaScript, HTML, CSS), and experience with the latest web standards including HTML5 and CSS3. React experience is a strong plus.
- Experience with UI/UX design, wireframing, and prototyping
- Proficiency with Storybook, GitHub
- Expertise in Figma including best practices for creating Design Systems, working with components.
- Understanding of Design System governance
- Cross functional collaboration skills.

Preferred
- Understanding of WCAG and Accessibility requirements
- Familiarity with a CSS pre-processing framework (such as Sass or PostCSS)
