Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations in Valencia, with a dotted line to the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources in Boston, the Senior Manager of Human Resources, is responsible for managing and directing all human resource activities, policies, and procedures for the Valencia Campus. Coordinates recruitment activities, policy interpretation, pay administration programs, new hire orientation, employee benefits, wellness, and affirmative action programs to ensure positive employee relations and in keeping with Berklee objectives. The HR Senior Manager also plays an integral role in compliance and risk mitigation efforts within the department, including creating processes and protocols ensuring full adherence to Spanish labor laws and regulations, while maintaining alignment with Berklee policies and principles. The Senior Manager is also responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing programs in support of the Human Resources department and the institution goals and strategic vision.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

- Requires a bachelor’s degree and 8-10 years of human resources experience, people and talent management at a professional level.
- Professional certification in Human Resources. Master’s degree preferred.
- Preference for bilingual or fluent in English and Spanish.
- Recommended: experience in a higher education or other mission-driven institution preferred.
- Culturally competent individual with experience working collaboratively in a very diverse, multi-cultural environment.
- In-depth knowledge of the Spanish labor law framework.
- Experience with a U.S. company or a company that navigates U.S. labor issues strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with Macs and Google suite.

OVERARCHING GOALS:
Lead the Human Resources team in defining and implementing a long-term People and Talent strategy across Berklee Valencia while actively striving to foster and maintain a workplace climate that is supportive of all employees regardless of their identity, respectful of difference, and genuinely open to multiple perspectives.
- Define, build, and implement a value-added HR strategy that includes robust policies, consistent procedures, and efficient solutions in alignment with institutional guidelines.
- Provide consultation, guidance, and direction to managers on work-related matters, complex employee relations and performance management issues; oversee corrective action processes.
- Facilitate and improve communication among employees, the Human Resource department, and executive leadership, to ensure that employees are familiar with the organization's mission, goals, policies, and expectations.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and compliance with Spanish payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Help align Spanish and international labor regulation and implement the adaptations needed
- Plan and coordinate compensation plans and benefit packages
- Design and oversee a Professional Development Program for managers and staff.
- Ensure that the campus’ hiring, and employee-related policies are fair, inclusive, and promote diversity while ensuring compliance to Spanish employment and immigration laws

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provide direct supervision and professional development to team members
- Oversee annual performance appraisals for team members
- Plan the department’s yearly budget.
- Consult with leaders and managers on organizational planning and implementation issues.
- Partner with managers and recruiters to establish an effective sourcing strategy for new hires. Support managers throughout the recruitment process.
- Remain abreast of HR best practices, legislation updates and actively participate in human resources associations.
- Oversee the new employee orientation and exit interview processes and participate as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Equity team on the harassment/discrimination complaints.
- Oversee unemployment claims; represent the institution at unemployment hearings as needed.
- Conduct exit interviews and manage off-boarding processes.
- Identify trends, analyze data, and make recommendations to campus leadership for continuous improvement

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

- Strong Human Resources experience at a management/leadership level with broad and deep employee relations expertise; demonstrated experience in handling complex work-related harassment and discrimination matters.
- Demonstrated experience in managing HR professionals; and strong management and leadership experience.
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives & experiences.
- Strong facilitation and problem-solving skills; demonstrated success in achieving a balanced, solution-oriented approach. Ability to successfully navigate/facilitate difficult discussions to reach reasonable solutions.
