Founding Backend Engineer – Privately Funded Communications Start‑up (Remote, Node.js/TypeScript)Join a rapidly growing communications start‑up backed by industry leaders. Build core backend services, drive architecture, and shape the company’s future.CompanyThe company is an early‑stage start‑up in the communications space, backed by industry leaders and already working with some of the largest customers in the space. It’s an excellent opportunity for a stand‑out Backend engineer to shape the future of the platform & the company.Role & ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain server‑side APIs, data models, and business logic powering the platform.Integrate telecom systems into the platform to ensure seamless interaction with external partner infrastructure.Assess and implement REST APIs from telecom partners for compatibility and alignment with business requirements.Collaborate with product and engineering teams to gather requirements and deliver backend solutions, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues from customers and partners related to the backend platform promptly and effectively.Participate in on‑call rotations to address critical backend issues quickly.Enhance platform architecture for improved scalability, performance, and reliability.Maintain high code quality through clean, well‑documented code and adherence to best practices.Develop reusable, modular backend components to support scalability and maintainability.Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure robust deliverables.Stay current with emerging backend technologies, frameworks, and cloud best practices, recommending improvements where appropriate.Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to uphold quality standards.Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions effectively to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.Contribute to continuous improvement of backend development processes and tools.What You’ll BringMinimum 7 years of professional experience as a backend software engineer, with a proven track record of delivering high‑quality, scalable backend systems.Deep expertise in backend technologies: Node.js, TypeScript, MySQL, RESTful API design and implementation, cloud infrastructure (AWS).Strong ability to design, code, test, and maintain backend applications with a focus on high availability, scalability, and performance.Experience with integrating external APIs and systems into complex backend architectures.Comfort working with tight deadlines and delivering impactful projects efficiently.Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written, to convey complex backend designs and decisions.A collaborative mindset and experience working in cross‑functional, remote‑friendly teams.A passion for solving backend and systems‑related problems and the ability to debug complex production issues.A business‑focused approach to backend development; always keeping reliability, customer needs, and project goals in mind.A growth mindset; eager to learn, improve, and stay ahead in backend engineering practices.An entrepreneurial spirit; motivated by the challenge and excitement of building something new and impactful from the ground up.Benefits & CompensationCompetitive Salary : £90,000 per year.Work‑Life Balance : Flexible working hours plus 25 days of paid leave, in addition to UK
