NoOffer DescriptionAbout the research groupThe Oncology Data Analytics Program (ODAP) was formed in 2019 answering the needs of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and IDIBELL for a unique program covering the genomic cancer research, bioinformatics knowledge and resources to support the institute in oncological data handling, analysis and research. By applying state-of-the-art bioinformatic tools and analysis, the program reaches its main objectives in cancer prevention and early detection of cancer. The program is divided in three subunits: Bioinformatics for Precision Oncology, Oncology Outcomes and Biomarkers and Susceptibility Unit. To find out more, visit our website: the roleWe are looking for a highly motivated researcher in data science, bioinformatics, biostatistics or related quantitative discipline. The selected candidate will work on the GEUS-COMPASS project (CPP ), funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MCI) and awarded to the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), through the 2024 Public-Private Collaboration Challenge Projects call.We are looking to incorporate a data scientist to support tasks related to data analysis from multiple research projects using NGS techniques applied to oncology. The candidate will mainly carry out the following tasks:Analysis of high-throughput omics data with state of the art methods including machine learning and deep learning.Assistance in the description and representation of results.Support for writing scientific and conference papers, posters and other reports.Support to improve and to implement optimizations in established analysis workflows and processes of the program.Support to solve specific issues and work to carry out the new methodological developments.Participation in research projects meetings, contribution to project decisions impacting data analysis.Participation in department meetings.Opportunity to collaborate in associated research topics gradually identified over time.Job requirementsProfessional experienceProven training or experience in the field of data science, bioinformatics, biostatistics or related quantitative disciplinesEducation and trainingDegree in data science, bioinformatics, biostatistics or related quantitative disciplinesTechnical & soft skillsFluent in Python and/or R/Bioconductor environments, and other programming languagesExperience working with Linux systems and command line interface, preferable in high performance computing systemsLanguagesGood command of the English languageKnowledge of Spanish or Catalan languagesWe will value, but not requiredKnowledge of molecular biology and the main hallmarks of cancer.Knowledge for design, development and maintenance of omics data analysis pipelines.Experience in germline and somatic NGS data analysis (exome data and targeted panels).Experience in visualization tools for genomics data.Experience working with distributed and high-performance computing environments (HPC clusters, process queues such as SLURM).Experience using virtual environments, such as Docker and Singularity containers.Ability to detect possible improvements in ongoing processes and develop strategies to make them more efficient.Ability to understand a problem or a new functionality and globally evaluate the implications in the entire System.Ability to divide a problem into small tasks and estimate the time needed to solve them.Ability and proactivity to solve problems efficiently and autonomously.Opportunity to continuously train in the field related to the work area.Fluent communication and high organization capacity in a multidisciplinary team.What do we offerNo. of positions: 1Estimated start date: 02/03/2026Contract duration: permanent by projectEstimated annual gross salary: : it is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay ranges.You will be part of a multicultural team.
