Individually we are different, but together we are an amazing team We are looking for a Systems Engineering Intern for a 6 months internshipin Barcelona. About the role: We are seeking an intern specializing in Systems Engineering to support our Systems and Propulsion teams in Barcelona . The selected candidate will contribute to a variety of system-level activities related to simulation, configuration management, tool development, verification, validation, and requirement tracking. Based on the candidate's background and interest, they may be assigned to one or more of the following topics: 1. IFRIT tool development, bug-fixing, documentation, and GUI interface improvements IFRIT is an in-house tool coded in Matlab for conceptual level trade-off studies of rocket engines, allowing for multi-variable trade-space studies to be performed on different rocket engine power cycles and for both aerospike and bell engine nozzles. The intern would fix bugs, suggest architecture changes, improve functionality and modularity, build a graphical user interface (GUI) that makes the tool more accessible and interactive, as well as create clear documentation to help future developers (and users) understand and use the tool. 2. IFRIT tool verification, validation, and testing The intern would be expected to develop a robust unit testing framework to verify individual code components, ensure correctness, and detect regressions early; ensure the code behaves as expected under realistic inputs and conditions by comparing against validated data or external tools; and provide clear documentation of testing strategy, test implementation, and verification activities for maintainability and future audits. 3. Aerospike transient simulations and dynamic modelling The intern would be expected to configure and execute transient simulations for ignition, shutdown, and differential throttling scenarios using the proprietary tool EcosimPro; Analyze and interpret the results of transient simulations, focusing on dynamic engine response and potential instabilities; and document simulation approach, key findings, and modeling recommendations. 4. Configuration and requirement traceability The intern will help to keep control and overview of the various configurations of the company’s propulsion products, meaning to maintain a process to trace and manage the associated data, requirements, the current design state and parameters, and ensure that the various iterations of each product are properly and securely tracked. The intern will maintain a tool/database and/or documentation management system to collect all relevant data of each configuration in an orderly fashion that allows for reverse-lookup and reverse-engineering of previous configurations, allowing for accurate and detailed traceability of the product’s entire evolution from scratch until the finished product. 5. Support for verification and validation planning, test campaign preparation, and data processing The intern would be involved in general validation & verification planification of the Nereus in-space propulsion line at Pangea, including ensuring consistency across the system requirements, identification of mission verifications, assistance in development of test specifications, analysis of validations and test results, track and report verification status of requirements, maintain Verification Control Documents, as well as general management of requirement specification and support for system Design Reviews. What you need to be successful (depending on assigned tasks): · Experience with programming (Matlab, Python), code version control (Git), as well as code packaging and GUIs · Familiarity with (code) verification and validation · Familiarity with numerical simulations tools such as EcosimPro · Interest in systems engineering, configuration management (and/or database management) · Fluency in English (spoken and written) · Final-year student in Aerospace Engineering, or a related field Soft Skills: · Analytical and problem-solving mindset · Attention to detail and technical curiosity · Clear communication and documentation skills · Team spirit and ability to work in a multicultural environment · Autonomy, initiative, and good time management Other useful skills: · Familiarity with tools like Valispace, CDP4, or OCDT · Previous experience with verification or V&V processes · Knowledge of configuration management or CI workflows · Exposure to propulsion or aerospace-related projects · Spanish language skills Not hitting every requirement?
