Position: Technical Lead Backup & Storage Systems Field: Space Type: Full-time/Remote with occasional onsite visits to Madrid Full Job Description Roles and Responsibilities Lead architecture and design of the new ESA backup & storage system Install, configure, and integrate enterprise backup solutions across Linux/Windows Configure networking, security, and system hardening Lead troubleshooting, acceptance testing, and technical implementation Produce high-quality technical documentation (HLD/LLD, procedures, test plans) Act as the main technical authority and guide the engineering team Project Overview Implementation of a new enterprise backup system for ESA (SCI-S Program) Role covers architecture, engineering, security, documentation, and integration Requires collaboration with ESA technical teams during reviews and milestones Must-Have Requirements Several years of experience in backup & storage engineering Deep expertise with Commvault, Veeam, NetBackup, or similar enterprise solutions Strong Linux & Windows integration skills Networking expertise (VLANs, routing, firewalls) Experience with system hardening, encryption, security best practices Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability Fluent English is mandatory Tools / Methodologies Enterprise backup tools (Commvault, Veeam, NetBackup) Linux / Windows administration VMware / Hyper-V (preferred) Bash, PowerShell, Python (preferred) ISO 27001 or similar security frameworks Documentation tools: Confluence, Visio, Markdown Language Requirements English Fluent Work Setup Remote-first Occasional travel to ESA/ESAC Madrid required What we offer: Join a cosmopolitan and internationally mixed team: We welcome individuals from all backgrounds and cultures to contribute their unique perspectives and talents to our team.
