This newly created Madrid-based position will manage the controls, processes and risks in the Business Operations team across GMNS Continental Europe operations (the “Business”), within the legal entity American Express Payments Europe, S.L (“AEPE” or “Legal Entity”). The role will support to the Business Operations Manager to be the business point of contact for repatriated markets, supporting Payfac implementation and regulatory reporting teams, playing an active role in partner oversight and risk assessment. This position will track and lead Operational Risk Events (OREs), Issues and Events that have a multimarket scope, as well as aid with Risk and Control Self Assessment (RCSA) uplifting and design. Additionally, reporting and tracking tasks will be an important part of this role. How will you make an impact in this role? It is essential that candidate has a solid understanding of American Express’ systems and procedures, knowledge of the Business, risk management and strong project management skills, with the ability to develop strong working relationships and to influence delivery and outcomes at multiple levels of the organization. The new role will be part of the Business Operations team and as such will work closely with key stakeholders across: Partner teams, Client Management, Control Management, Operational Risk, Internal Audit Group. The role combines responsibilities across Continental Europe and RCSA & Process Support, with a strong emphasis on cross-market coordination and control management. Continental Europe Act as the business point of contact for repatriated markets. Support Payfac implementation and regulatory reporting teams. Lead and track OREs, Issues, and Events with a multimarket scope to avoid ageing. Own Action Plans for OREs, coordinating with GMNS Ops for timely closure. Manage internal reporting to provide visibility on OREs and RAPs status and pipeline. Coordinate with the Payfac team on all matters related to repatriated markets and Payfac expansion. RCSA and Process Support Support the Business Operations Manager in RCSA uplifting and process design, identifying and defining new process inventory and associated applications. Complete process mapping and PRSA refresh activities. Identify and document controls to mitigate risk, test their effectiveness, and report results. Support the creation and maintenance of the First Line of Business-owned Sanction Screening process and exception documentation. Cross-functional Collaboration Work closely with Partner teams, Client Management, Control Management, Operational Risk, and Internal Audit Group. Support internal audit requests in scope of the Business and cross-market. Represent business interests within the Legal Entities governance structure. Minimum Qualifications University Degree. Extensive knowledge of the Business and risk advisory. Proven experience in designing and implementing regulatory compliance programs including analysis of regulation, risk assessment, design of policies & procedures and monitoring programs. Strong analytical skills and an innovative approach to solving problems. Proactive attitude with a business approach when addressing problem-solving situations. Decisive Self-starter with high degree of accountability, able to multi-task and prioritize across diverse and rapidly shifting or contending internal and external requirements. Ability to develop relationships with leaders, peers, and control and compliance teams. Previous network relationships with Audit, Operational Risk, Compliance, is preferred. Previous exposure to regulatory and policy compliance activities with a strong control mindset. Fluency in English and Spanish, both verbal and written is a must.
