Our Client is a global leader in the nuclear power sector. The Role The Nuclear Safety Case Engineer will play a critical role in the preparation, assessment, and maintenance of nuclear safety cases that underpin the safe design, construction, operation, and life extension of nuclear facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring that safety justifications meet regulatory expectations and industry best practices. You will join a busy department in a permanent staff basis at a time of exciting growth. Key Responsibilities Develop and write nuclear safety cases for both new build projects and existing plant modifications, including those related to plant life extension. Produce and update key safety case documentation such as: Safety Reports (PCSR, PSR, Pre-Construction & Pre-Operational Safety Reports) Fault Studies and Deterministic Safety Analyses, Engineering Substantiations, ALARP Justifications and Risk Assessments Support the integration of safety cases into the broader project lifecycle Lead and support hazard identification studies (HAZID), HAZOPs, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), and other safety methodologies. Assess fault sequences, identify safety functional requirements, and define safety systems and features necessary to manage risk. Contribute to the assessment of aging nuclear plant structures, systems, and components (SSCs). Develop safety case updates to justify continued safe operation beyond the plant’s original design life. Engage with regulatory bodies (ONR) to present and defend safety case strategies and findings. Coordinate inputs across design, operations, maintenance, and licensing teams to ensure coherent safety arguments. Collaborate with design engineers to embed safety requirements in system architecture and detailed design. Provide technical input to regulatory submissions and licensing documentation. Assist in resolving regulatory queries and actions related to safety case content. Apply best practices in safety case development, ensuring deliverables meet safety, security, environmental, and commercial objectives while supporting the UK’s energy goals Build strong collaborative relationships with multi-disciplinary colleagues Key Requirements Experience in developing safety case documentation in any of the following areas: hazard assessment identification, fault studies, radiation protection / radiological consequence assessment, severe accident analysis Relevant Degree (BEng/BSc or higher) in a relevant engineering or science discipline (e.g., Nuclear, Mechanical, Civil, Physics, Chemical). Experience in nuclear regulatory processes and interacting with the regulator (ONR) Proven experience of authoring several safety case submissions in a UK context Knowledge and experience of UK codes, regulations and operational requirements Familiar with interfacing with safety analysts, nuclear designers, engineering teams, licensing and compliance teams Familiar with interacting with external regulators, ONR and independent nuclear assessors Familiarity with late life extension programs in the nuclear sector, particularly those involving AGR, PWR, or BWR reactor types. Experience working with complex safety case architectures (e.g. fault tolerant design) Ability to build trusted relationships with multi-disciplinary colleagues whilst also able to deliver constructive feedback and criticism Strong attention to detail and exceptional communication skills Ability to thrive and focus in a fast-paced, rapidly expanding department Given current workloads, Simpson Booth regrets to inform that in the instance you have not heard from us within 2 weeks of your application, you should consider yourself unsuccessful at this time. #J-18808-Ljbffr
