As a Lead Environment Surfacing Artist, you will be leading a team of surfacing artists to ensure the quality and deadlines are met. You will work with the Production team, Production Designer, Art Director and Environment Supervisor to create the desired look for the environments and props that may reflect any of a wide variety of styles. Takes and receives direction from the Supervisor and provides feedback for the team and reviewing artist’s work. Works with the Director and Supervisor to elevate the quality to the next level. Evaluates the surfacing artists’ work first, ensuring all assets follow the quality standards and artistic direction. Creates textures using photography, pre‑existing materials, and/or procedural sources. Keeps up on current technology trends and tools (hardware and software) that best suit the production (and the company) in the development of a stronger creative technical environment. Acts as the link between input and output departments (Modeling, Set Dressing, Rigging, Lighting, FX, Compositing). Has organizational skills such as time management, prioritization, and delegation. 6+ years in VFX or animation industries. ~1+ year experience in the animation industry. ~ Strong artistic and/or technical aptitude related to 3D animation is a must. ~ Knowledge of skinning, rigging, lighting, and optimization. ~ Strong artistic and/or technical aptitude related to 3D animation. ~ Experience in Mari, Maya, Substance Designer, Arnold Render. ~ High English proficiency. ~ Spanish is desirable.
