To spearhead this initiative, we are looking for experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high‑availability AWS services—including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock—exclusively for EU customers. A typical day involves collaborating with technology leaders, contributing to day‑to‑day operations improvements, and ensuring enhancements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC. You will also participate in on‑call rotations to resolve incidents outside of normal business hours.The overarching goal is to deliver scalable services and ensure a high‑availability experience for EU customers. AWS Utility Computing provides product innovations—from foundational services such as Amazon S3 and Amazon EC2 to consistently released new product features that set AWS’s services apart. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services. Managed Operations engineers within UC engage with customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.A Day in the LifeEmbark on a week filled with meaningful contributions to the operation and improvement of significant software systems. You review the operational health of services within your team’s responsibility, identify anomalies, craft actionable bug reports, and work to enhance overall efficiency and performance. You provide constructive feedback on change‑management documents, address your team’s operational backlog, and collaborate to navigate challenges and ensure seamless functionality. You also develop and test scripts to provide practical solutions to improve workflows and act as an educator, sharing insights on the complexities of the European Sovereign Cloud with service teams. Your commitment to continuous learning and improvement recognizes that every effort, no matter how small, contributes to the collective success of the team and the reliability of our systems.In addition to these responsibilities, your position involves a 24x7 on‑call responsibility. You work as a team to root‑cause issues and ensure systems remain resilient and fault‑tolerant, underscoring your commitment to operational excellence.Eligibility RequirementsFluency in written and spoken English is required.Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and reside in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.Employees will participate in an on‑call rota.Basic QualificationsThis role requires you to be a national of an EU member state.Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering working with hardware, software, networking, operating systems.Experience scripting processes in a language such as Bash, Python, or Ruby.Solid understanding of Linux and networking, and able to troubleshoot and anticipate problems that affect the performance, reliability, or availability of software systems.Ability to lead the creation, revision, and/or improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.Preferred QualificationsExperience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic, or similar.Experience actively mentoring junior engineers and working cross‑organizationally and leading strategic team efforts that require collaboration across multiple team members.Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud systems or services.Experience operating 24x7 high‑availability, distributed software applications and performing performance tuning and fleet utilization optimization.Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar.Equal Opportunity StatementAmazon is an equal opportunities employer.
