Our Observability team handles the end-to-end experience from data collection to insight and action. This role focuses on instrumentation—the first mile of the customer journey—to make data collection seamless for developers and enable the full power of our observability platform.What You Will Be Doing Own the Vision & Strategy: Define and evangelize the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the OpenTelemetry instrumentation experience, aligning with observability goals and the evolving OTel landscape.Champion the Developer: Engage with developers, SREs, and platform engineers via interviews, community channels, and analytics to understand their struggles and build loved solutions.Lead in the Open: Be an active member of the OpenTelemetry community, participate in SIGs, contribute to specifications, and build relationships to ensure our platform is the best place to send OTel data.Drive Execution: Collaborate with engineering, design, and developer relations to translate user needs into clear requirements, scope features, and drive launches.Define Success: Establish and analyze KPIs focused on instrumentation adoption, time-to-value, ease-of-use, and data quality.Enable the Ecosystem: Work with marketing, sales, and solution architects to craft messaging and technical content that articulates the value of using OpenTelemetry with our platform.Be the Expert: Serve as internal and external spokesperson for our OpenTelemetry Instrumentation strategy at conferences, webinars, and customer meetings.What You Bring An OTel Enthusiast: Passion for OpenTelemetry with hands-on understanding of APIs, SDKs, Collector, OTLP, and vision for its future.A Technical Product Leader: 3+ years of product management experience, preferably with a technical, API-driven, or developer-focused product; comfortable with architecture diagrams and code samples.A Former Practitioner (or the approach): Hands-on observability experience (SRE, DevOps, software development, or solutions architecture involved in instrumentation and monitoring).Customer-Obsessed: Focus on user journeys and turning customer insights into a roadmap.An Outstanding Communicator: Strong written and verbal communication across executives and engineers.A Community-Minded Collaborator: Able to work with cross-functional teams and open-source communities.Bonus Points Experience contributing to an open-source project (especially OpenTelemetry) or familiarity with Elastic Stack, Datadog, or other major observability vendors.Additional Information - We Take Care Of Our People Elastic is a distributed company that values diversity and works to balance great work with great life.
