Position Overview
The Internal Audit function serves as an independent and objective assurance and advisory service aimed at assisting Howden Group and its subsidiaries in achieving their strategic goals. Our approach is meticulous and targeted, focusing on evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance frameworks. The Internal Audit team reports functionally to the Howden Group Audit Committee while maintaining an administrative link to the Group Chief Risk Officer.
Our mission is not merely to identify shortcomings but to empower management and the organization in fulfilling their objectives effectively. We leverage our diverse skill sets to challenge conventional practices and provide valuable insights alongside our core assurance responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute a variety of internal audits as outlined in the Group Audit plan, assessing operational processes and risks while evaluating internal controls to deliver an independent assessment of the control environment. Key outcomes will include actionable recommendations for process and control enhancements, contributing to improved operational efficiency. Depending on the complexity of each audit, you may work alongside team members or independently.
- Foster and maintain constructive relationships with key stakeholders across the organization, including senior leadership.
- Participate in additional audit-related activities such as tracking the status of management's corrective action plans, contributing to risk assessments, and updating various management reports for executive leadership and the Audit Committee.
- Drive continuous improvement within the function through innovation and efficiency, including questioning existing methodologies.
- Training and development opportunities will be fully supported, with an emphasis on self-direction to ensure skills and expertise remain relevant and valuable.
- This role will require global travel, primarily within Europe, with occasional trips to the Middle East and Latin America. Overall, travel is estimated to be around 30-40%.
Skills and Qualifications
- Exceptional organizational abilities coupled with strong time management skills.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English, with business-level proficiency in Spanish. Knowledge of Italian is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proven ability to establish credibility and rapport with stakeholders at all levels.
- Solid business acumen with the capability to empathize with auditees and identify practical solutions to mitigate identified risks; strong negotiation and influencing skills are essential.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; experience in data analytics is viewed favorably.
- Highly motivated, proactive self-starter with a collaborative and supportive team spirit.
Knowledge and Experience
- A professional qualification in finance, business, or the insurance sector is highly desirable.
- A consistent record of performance in either internal or external audit roles, demonstrating the ability to conduct high-quality audit work and deliver comprehensive findings and reports.
- Experience in presenting and communicating information clearly and objectively, facilitating discussions to build consensus and drive actionable outcomes.
- A solid grasp of technical auditing principles and internal control systems.
- Previous experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry, including familiarity with regulatory requirements, is a significant advantage.
