About the Role

The Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is seeking a highly skilled Research Data Management Specialist to join our Scientific IT Team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in optimizing data workflows, ensuring data integrity, and supporting researchers in harnessing the full potential of their data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement data management strategies to facilitate efficient handling, storage, and analysis of scientific research data produced at the CRG.
  • Collaborate with researchers to understand their data requirements and provide guidance on best practices for data collection, storage, and documentation while promoting the FAIR principle.
  • Help to design and maintain databases, ensuring data security, accessibility, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Strategy and Funding Department to formulate budgetary allocations for research proposal data management plans, and liaise with scientific project managers to ensure the correct execution of data management plans.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in scientific data management to continuously improve processes.
  • Train researchers on data management tools and best practices, fostering a FAIR data-driven culture within the organization.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to integrate data management solutions into existing systems.

Requirements

  • Scientific background with experience working with large and diverse data sets within a research environment.
  • Project management experience in Scientific Research.
  • Knowledge and experience of open science with a specific emphasis on compliance with European research data management regulations.
  • Knowledge in defining and managing scientific metadata and ontologies.
  • Proven experience with iRODS, OMERO, or other data management systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of semantic web technologies.
  • Scripting ability, ideally in Python.
  • Experience using Linux including bash terminal.
  • Experience using a computational cluster with a batch scheduler (e.g., slurm, grid engine, etc.).

Education and Training

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM subject (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).

Languages

  • Proficient in English.
  • Spanish/Catalan is an advantage.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and capacity to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Attention to detail and solution-oriented.
